Thursday, April 3, 1952 Pilot Operation Planned Here By New Organization; Combines Scholarship, Civic, Savings Funds The pilot operation 01 a new organization, which .combines the functions of a scolarship fund, a . community-betterment project and a trading-stamp sales stimulant, will be held in Medford starting next week, it was revealed here today. - - The organization will be known as the Kin-SUp Founda tion. It is unique not r'nly in its methods of operation but in its objectives. A group of prominent Jack son county people, who . will serve without pay, were named to the firm's board of directors at a meeting here last night. Manager Named Names of the directors, ' or trustees, will not be made pub lic so they may retain their in dependence of action, it was re ported today, but they announc ed that Ron Rice has been named manager for the new- enterprise. A merchants' committee, to screen community projects, will be set up later, but the trustees will have the final disposition of community funds. Carl Werner, a Portland pub lic relations man, had the ori ginal idea for the foundation, and has developed it over a per iod of two years in consultation with bankers, newspapermen, civic leaders and merchants. Former Assistant Revenue Official Refuses Questions Washington (U.R) Daniel A. Bolich, former assistant in ternal revenue . commissioner, refused Thursday on grounds of possible self-incrimination to answer questions of House tax scandal investigators. Bolich, whose name has crop ped up frequently in the current investigation by a House Ways and Means subcommittee, gave his name and address and then flatly refused to answer any further questions. Stands on Rights "I stand on my constitutional rights," he said. Bolich's attorney, Robert L. Callahan, protested the sub committee's action in subpoena ing Bolich while the former tax official is under investigation by a federal grand jury in Brooklyn. Seriously 111 Callahan also objected to the subcommittee's summoning of Bolich because, he said, Bolich is suffering from a serious illness. Chair Cecil R. King CD., Cal.) told Callahan the sub committee did not want to do anything to ' "impair Mr. Bo lich's health." Grading Projects Gelling Under Way Ashland Grading of the new baseball field at Southern Ore gon college was scheduled to be gin today, according to Donald E. Lewis, business manager. Other campus landscaping will be undertaken following com pletion of that project, he said. M. C. Lininger and Sons con struction company will start the ball diamond work with a carry all, Lewis said. The new athletic area bordering on Walker ave nue has been staked out and will be seeded after it is leveled. A small frame house located on a corner of the property will not be moved for several weeks, however.- ' Landscape Project . v On Monday, Chet Correy, su perintendent of Ashland's Lithia park, will supervise first phases of the landscaping project in front of the new library-classroom building. Two duplex apartments have recently been moved. Meanwhile, work continues on the new $200,000 annex to the women's dormitory by Ausland and Dodson company. Pouring of concrete for the first floor walls is nearing completion and it is hoped that the building will be ready for occupancy at the opening of college in September. NEW POST -Vice Adm. Robert P. I The "awakening" followed a Tuesday trip to the Douglas county community. by Angus L. Bowmer, professor of English at SOC. In a six-hour visit, he met several hundred townspeople at several functions and told them successively about the college, the Oregon Shakespearean festi val and the Vining Repertory program. - -; - On .Radio Arriving early for an engage ment to address the Roseburg Women's club, Profesor Bowmer was invited to a radio interview where he answered many ques tions about the several drama programs. An - invitation to at tend the weekly Kiwanis meeting as a guest resulted in appearance as pinch-hitter for ' a missing guest speaker, and Professor Bowmer changed his pitch to embrace the tourist industry of southern Oregon. With still some time io kill be fore the scheduled Women's club meeting, the Rogue valley am bassador met with a group of drama enthusiasts and continued to outline for them the program here. Professor Bowmer said the final appearance at the club meeting found another enthusi astic audience which was intense ly interested in the festival and Vining work. This Saturday Professor Bow mer will speak before the Grants Pass Women's club. And he said today he'll go prepared for an other all-day stand if necessary. T. Frost, Oregon snow survey leader, but "local reports on soil moisture conditions and precipitation totals cut down the overall water supply outlook. . In the Umatiila basin, the snow pack was 22 per cent above average. Flow forecast for the Umatilla river near Gibbon was set at 95,000-acre feet and at Pendleton 185,000-acre feet. Frost said these figures were just above the 10-year averages.
