Considering the normal inter
est the average male has in wom
en's les, it would seem the men
dominating the hosiery industry
would handle the matter of fit
ting more skillfully. Most hos
iery is sold by foot size. Not
much consideration is given to
leg size. Or so I am informed by
a feminine subscriber, who
claims this is one of the reasons
for most stockings having such a
short life. However, an expert on
the hosiery situation say there
is a firm which offers hosiery
adapted to both foot and leg

tioned Pvt. Charles E. Wood
Thursday about the three months
he was held by Communists in
Czechoslovakia.
The State Department an
nounced the; release of the Voth,
Tex., soldier Wednesday.
Army authorities refused to
enlarge upon the announcement,
except to say Wood had been
turned over to American authori
ties at an obscure point on' the
Czech-German border March 29.
Wood disappeared from his
unit last December and shortly
afterward was reported arrest
ed by the Czechs.
Authorities said that if Wood
is found guilty of being absent
without leave he will be court-martialed.

to talk to officers, so great was
her fear.
Torture Denied -
On the one occasion when she
did admit them, she denied that
once again the teenagers were
torturing her because of her
love for the cats. .
But Mrs. Blanche Pollard, a
50-year-old spinster who lives
with her, called in police when
the youthful racketeers drained
away so much of Mrs. Edmonds
income that she was forced to
"beg for food."
Began Last Summer
A group of boys first began
working their extortion racket
last summer. By the time Mrs.
Pollard found out about it and
called officers, she estimated
their "take" was from $10 to
$15 a day. .

State Board of Health said
Thursday the deaths of two men
last week in Pilot Rock, Ore.,
have been tentatively diagnosed
as due to botulism.
Remnants of the jars of home-
canned foods, eaten by Arthur
D. Hileman, 72, and his son,
Manley, 42, were undergoing
tests by Dr. William Levin at the
state hygienic laboratory.
The men became ill March 22,
the father dying the next day
and his son on March 26.
Betulism is caused by poisons,
called toxins, secreted by a
species of bacteria, Dr. Gordon
C. Edwards, acting state health
officer, said.
