Greyhound Reaches
Agreement To Buy
Two Stage Routes
Chicago (U.R) Greyhound
Corp. has announced it has
reached an agreement with the
Union Pacific railroad to buy
the road's stock interest in Inter
state Transit Lines and Union
Pacific Stages.
" The two properties are inter
city bus lines now operated Joint
ly under the name of Overland
Greyhound Lines. The purchase
would be subject to approval by
the Interstate Commerce Com
mission. Greyhound Owns Stock
, Umon Pacific owns 51 per
cent of Interstate Transit and
66 23 per cent of Union Pacific
Stages. Since 1943, Greyhound
has owned 33 13 per cent of the
stock of both companies.
The balance has been held by
the Chicago and Northwestern
railway.

per ton or l-20th of a cent per
pound on commercial cherry
sales for the rain control re
search -work. Any funds from
the extra assessment not needed
for that would be applied to the
commission's fruit fly research
program being conducted in co
operation with Washington State
college.
Corporation Formed
The weather control work
will 'be carried out by a non
profit corporation being formed
by cherry, growers of the We
natchee and Yakima districts as
well as by meteorologists, the
commission said. The work will
be done only in cherry-growing
valleys, it added.
Balloons for Ike
Out in Yokohama
Yokohama, Japan (U.R) The
army gently but firmly told a
group of politically-minded sol
diers Wednesday that there will
be no "vote for Ike" balloons
flown in the Yokohama military
area.
The soldiers had planned to
send aloft a 15-foot bright yellow
balloon, rented from a Japanese
advertising firm, with a 150-foot
banner proclaiming in red let
ters, "vote for Ike."
But Col. Alford P. Jordan,
commandant of the 49th port
battalion, Yokohama, .'put his
