Army weapons, from sidearms and rifles to giant tanks and howit zers, are "superior" to Russia's. They also reported "important progress" in the Army's work on tactical atomic weapons for use against massed enemy troops, and on anti-aircraft rockets and guided missiles. Testimony Published This was disclosed Saturday with publication of heavily-censored testimony by Army Secre tary Frank Pace, Jr., and Gen. J. Lawton Collins, Army chief of staff. Red air power in the Far East, he said, tops America's, even though the United States has about a third of its combat- ready planes in that theater. Two Canada Tugs Aground in Storm Victoria, B. C. (U.B Two British Columbia tugboats were still grounded Saturday on the mainland coast near Prince Ru pert in a vicious Pacific snow storm. The two tugs, La Mars and Laveme, owned by Vancouver, B. C, Tug and Barge Co., were grounded in the storm late Fri day near Kemano, site of the huge Aluminum Co. of Canada power project. . A tugboat was standing by waiting for the storm to abate before going to the rescue, offi cials said here. Radio contact with the north coast indicated both tugs were towing barges laden with heavy and expensive machinery for the aluminum project near Kitimat and Kemano. 'Copter Service Planned for LA Los Angeles (U.R) A heli copter passenger service will be inaugurated here late this year or early in 1953, C. M. Belinn, president of Los Angeles Air ways, announced Saturday. Belinn said his company Fri day accepted delivery in Bridge port, Conn., of a CAA-certified Sikorsky model S-55 10- passen ger craft which will cruise at 86 mph and has a top speed of 110 mph. He estimated it would cost $3.42 per person for hops be tween Pasadena and Los An geles international airport, $6 for a Riverside-San Bernardino to Los Angeles run and $3.96 from Santa Ana to Los Angeles. All the distances are less than 100 miles. Fluoride Drugs Seized by State Seattle (U.R) . The Wash ington State Pharmacy Board this month seized several drug products containing fluorides be cause of state labeling law viola tions. Board Chairman C. B. Hal vorson said Friday. Some of the products were tablets to be taken like medi cine, while others were intended to be mixed with drinking water, Halvorson said. All were supposed to reduce tooth decay, he added. He said the products were seized because of vague labels or Incomplete directions for use. A proposal to fluoridate all Se attle's water supply was turned down by voters in the recent municipal elections. THANK YOU MEDFORD! The Grange Live Oak Grange The March 28 meeting of Live Oak Grange in Rogue River, was preceded by an officers seating drill, and was attended by 100 . members and visiting Grangers. Guests included Wil liam Howes, State Grange over seer and Master of Gold Hill Grange; Claude Hutton, master Phoenix Grange; Ralph James, master of Sams Valley Grange; Herbert Carlton, Jackson Coun ty Pomona Grange master; and Roscoe Roberts, State Grange steward and county deputy. Data regarding organic and chemical fertilizer was presented by Agriculture Chairman Willi am Krauss. Frank Marshall re ported on high prices and scar city of feed for cattle, and Carl Christensen reported on the poultry situation. Charles Hock ersmith, Phoenix Grange, and director of the Grange Co-op, gave the present status of Co-op business. Mrs. Harry Nelson, H.E.C. chairman, stated the ham dinner was a complete financial success and thanked members for splen did cooperation. Lecture program put on by Mrs. Boulter, lecturer of Enter prise Grange, included an in teresting presentation of the history of Oregon by Mr. Hoover and an oration, "The Cremation of Sam McGee," by Jack Hitson and Dave Blair. Next visitation meeting will be at Gold Hill Grange, Thurs day evening, April 3. Lecture program will be put on by Mrs lone Black, lecturer of Live Oak Grange. All members were urged to attend. Next meeting of Live Oak Grange will be on Thursday, April 10, at 8 p.m. Seattle (U.R) William M. Holman has been elected as pres- ldent of the Young Republicans of King county. He succeeds Lewis H. Johnson. Gasttill Judge Postpones Sheriff's Trial Everett, Wash, (UJ0 Arraignment of Snohomish County Sheriff Tom Warnock and four members of his staff on charges of permitting two jail trusties to escape has been post poned two weeks by Superior Judge Tom Stiger. Judge Stiger granted the post ponement Friday on request of Will Lannlng, Warnock's attor ney. Warnock, Undersheriff Earl Weaver and' Deputies Lewis Flanagan,' Charles Matlock and Angus McDonald are accused of allowing Donald Lee and Joe Guyermelli to escape from a work party at the Evergreen fair grounds last August. Lee and Guyermelli were trusties in the Snohomish county jail. The prisoners are being held in the Skagit county jail as ma terial witnesses in the case. Israeli Student Will Get Award Pullman (U.R) Washington State college announced Satur day that a $5,600 fellowship has been set up to permit an Israeli student to become an irrigation specialist. Aluminum Company of Amer ica will underwrite the student's first year required to get a master's degree in agricultural engineering, and Palestine En dowment Funds, Inc., New York, is matching funds for the second year. The fellowship specifically earmarks $500 for vacation trav-, el in western irrigated areas. The sponsors said the fellow ship is a step toward aiding Israel to become agriculturally independent. Meetings Planned On Fish Program Seattle (U.R) A series of meetings to review progress un der the $3,500,000 Washington State Department of Fisheries salmon rehabilitation program will be held next week in north west Washington. Director Robert J. Schoettler and members of his staff were to meet with representatives of the fishing industry, sports and civic groups and local and state gov ernment officials. Meetings will be held in Bell- in gham, Tuesday; Anacortes, Wednesday; Everett, Thursday; and Kalama April 6. Two meet ings already have been held in coastal communities.
