Newspaper Page TextYOUNGSTERS SING :The "Harmony Wreckers" quartet, above, will be one of a number of local singing groups . which will participate in the second annual "Harmony Jamboree and Parade of Quartets" at the Medford high school auditorium Satur day evening. Tickets for the event are going fast, according to the sponsoring Medford chdpter of the Society for the Preserva tion and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. Proceeds will go to purchase supplies for the two ambu lance planes operated by Mercy Flights, Inc. A number of quartets from all parts of the state, and two choruses, will be on the pro gram. "Tick" Malarkey Camp White made history this past Friday night. The Veterans Hour, the first radio broadcast from the station, was aired by Medford station KYJC. The show itself was un der the direction of Charlie Mack of Hollywood and Jimmy Dunlevy of Medford. The Mey ers Holland post of the Central Point American Legion sponsor ed the program and it is the brain child of Bill Keizyr of that post. Preceding the Quiz show. acts from the Red Barn, Med ford high school and Kiwanis Kapers were shown. Those men on the station taking part in the program were George Parker, Walter Helium, Hans Sorenson, David Von Needa. Archiet Mc Beth and Eddie McNee. There was not a vacant seat in, the auditorium. And the doors to the balcony were thrown open to accommodate the overflow crowd which came to the station that evening. -. ; i Babe Roberts is 'collecting from the members for the Amer ican Red Cross. He has better than half made his quota. Babe Is the old marine that heads many of the money drives out this way. in jr. the evening. The intermis sion featured refreshments. An open meeting will be held Wednesday evening by Camp White Post 6412, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Commander Wil lard Abbott has returned from leave and will conduct the meet ing. Neighboring auxiliaries are to furnish the entertainment and refreshments. New -officers of the post will be installed next month. A new commander for the Camp White DAV chapter will be elected Friday night. Present commander is Ernie Collier who will be leaving on a discharge shortly after the first of April. Oil ThC Side By E. They were taken to the stage play "The Voice of the Turtle" and greatly enjoyed the show. Thirty-eight men signed for the trip. - For an hour Tuesday evening of last week the Medford 'high school band under the. direction of I. A. Mirick entertained the men at a Junior Red Cross pro gram arranged by Vera Humph rey. The music was greatly, ap preciated. Following the concert refreshments were served. Miss Humphrey always comes - up with something good in the way of entertainment. And when she is scheduled to appear-a crowd ed house always greets this charming lady. Ladies of the VFW, auxiliary of Medford put on a dance Mon day night. A good group of them came out of town. Music was furnished by Art Kenton's Camp White orchestra. Archie McBeth is a new vocalist featured with Kenton and sang four songs' dur- The catfish are not biting yet. This writer, with Bill "Catfish" Clayton, tried for them last Sun day. Other than a nibble or two the results were nothing. "Cat fish" Clayton says the leaves have got to begin to bud before they will bite. A contribution taken up by Babe Roberts from the men was presented to Mrs. Joe Williams. Joe passed away last week. Not only will he be missed out here but his good wife was a familiar figure throughout the corridors. Not a day passed but that she came out from Medford to be with her husband, Joe. He was confined to a wheel chair and Mrs. Williams spent each day with him caring for his every need. True devotion was her symbol. The game of "Eight Ball " is one of the most popular recrea tions at Camp White.
