Society and Clubs Colorful Costumes, Elegant Furniture Planned for Play Leg 'omutton sleeves, design ed a bit overfull, skirts with an extra swish, and elegant but im practical furniture are only some of the "musts' for producing Oscar Wilde's comedy, "The Im portance of Being Earnest," ac cording to Richard Graham, di rector for the Vining repertory's forthcoming production Only the elegance of gilted fragile chairs and other furni ture of the Victorian period will bring out the frothy spirit of the comedy of manners, and now the production manager is scouring the valley, furniture shops and second hand stores in quest of the delicate pieces, the director said. Mrs. Eleanor Williams is re sponsible for designing the cos tumes in the light artificiality of style 4o fit the epigrammatic dialogue of the play. Gay and brilliant colors combined with the exaggerated stylizing, point up the satirical attitude toward the manners and modes of the era. Subscriptions are be ing sold for $5, according to representatives of the depart ment. They stated that a charge of $25 will be made for an alarm answered by the fire department to property owned by a non member of the organization. However, they stated that all such alarms will be answered. Part of the $25 will go towar membership in the department.
