CaL REMONSTRANCE FROM A V I R ( Dr. Brady In a long and checkered ca reer as international quack I nave learned to brush off ordin- a r y squawks from, say vendors of cheat - foods, trick special ists and other bunk mer chants who thrive on pop ular ignorance and credulity. But when I draw one from a VLR it jars me. VIR means very important reader. Any reader under sixteen years of age who writes to me is a VIR. It is of little moment whether you old geezers (past 35) ap plaud or resent, approve or dis agree, accept or reject my teachings. But( believe me, the reaction of this VIR has already spoiled two nights' sleep for me: Dear Doc: My mother thinks you are perfect, but I think you are a meddlesome old bore. Before you put out that dope on Bedtime Schedules I got to stay up until 10 or 10:30. But now it's 9:00, with no questions asked. I'm a boy 12 years old, 13 next month. I don't see why I can't stay up one or two hours more. Regretfully yours, George -J P.S. Just when did you go to bed when you were 12? I like particularly George's bow to his mother. Trouble with many parents is that they argue, scream, scold or nag. George's mother just says "Bedtime, George," and George heeds the reminder, and no questions ask ed. Not at that time anyway. For the life of me I can't re member what bedtime was for me when I as 12 years old. Nor can I fix on any corollary cir cumstance which might refresh my memory. But I do seem to re- Itching Dry Ectfma Why scratch and suffer hopelessly ? And that reminds me, I'll send on written request a pamphlet on the Bedwetting Habit to any parent who pro vides stamped self-addressed en velope. Written request does not mean a clipping. George probably doesn't ap preciate it now, but he is lucky to have a mother who sees to it that he hits the hay at bedtime. Other things being equal, George will have a substantial lead over boys of his age who are allowed to be up till ten or eleven o'clock. For a deplorable instance Cub Scout troops or dens who attend shows that keep them up late at night. Ordinarily I don't mind, in J fact I get a chuckle out of the names the old geezers call me But it saddens me to think thai a boy who can write such a good letter as George writes consid ers me a meddlesome old bore.
