ItSS MEDFORD (OREGON) NATL THIBUlfl ETET Glassware Glossary Aid to Homemaker In Making Selections In selecting fine glassware for table and decorative uses, the homemaker will find in the terms used to describe Ameri can hand-made glass: Hand-Blown Stemware Gob lets, champagne glasses, etc. that are literally "blown" into shape by breath pressure through a 4-foot pipe. Hand-blown glass is characteristically transparent, lustrous and marked with "personality" which stamps it as handmade, as a painting bears the personality of the artist's brush in the form 61 brush- marks. Hand-Pressed Glassware Shaped in a carefully designed metal mold. Plates, heavy bowls and larger pieces, as well as some heavier stemware, are made by hand-pressing. Crystal Synonymous with with "fine glass." Contains high percentage of lead, which adds brilliance, strength and durability. Cut Glass Glassware decor ated by cutting figures or pat terns into the surface by press ing the glass against a revolving wheel. The artisan memorizes the pattern and cuts it free-hand with no marks on the glass to guide him mechanically. Etched Glass Design is made by dipping glass into an acid bath which eats into its surface to create the pattern except where the surface has been pro tected by a wax coating. Home Nursing Class To Begin Wednesday A new class in home nursing, taught by Mrs. John Heckert and Miss Gertrude Molloy, will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 19 in the classroom in the Medford city hall. This is the fifth class since the February training conference held here, officers said. Husbands and wives are en couraged to take the class to gether and those interested are asked to call Mrs. S. C Watkins, phone 2-4385. Another evening class will be taught beginning April 7 by Miss Eunice Gray. Those wanting to register for that class should call Mrs. George Carter, phone 2-6586. 1 Woman Legislator Heads Money Matters Frankfort, Ky. tu.PJ Men apparently do trust women to handle money matters. Men outnumber women 97 to 3 in the Kentucy House of Rep resentatives, but a woman legis lator was chosen to head the committee that spends the money. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Burnett, Lexington Democrat, was named chairman of the appropriations committee. The committee is made up of Mrs. Burnett and 14 men. BIRTHDAYS OVERLAP Cokato, Minn.
