Others from here who will attend are Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Reeves. Son Born Mr. and Mrs. "Al lan Kercher, Corvallis, are the parents of a son born Wednes day, March 12, in that city. The child weighed eight pounds and two ounces. Mrs. Kercher, the former Jean Zacharisen, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zacharisen, 725 South Keneway drive. Kercher is a senior in the school of business administra tion at Oregon State college. 20-80 Club The members of the 20-80 club of the Jackson ville Presbyterian church ex tend an invitation to families of the vicinity to join them in an evening of "fun" Saturday. A St. Patrick's day program with com munity singing of Irish songs will be featured. Miss Ivey Cof fey, Southern Oregon college student from India, will speak. A potluck dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. in the church par lors and the party will take place there after the dinner. Postpone Meet The Griffin Creek school Mothers' club meet ing scheduled for Friday aft ernoon, March 14, has been post poned to Friday, March 28, at 8 p. m., according to officers of the club. At that time Dr. -Wil liam Sampson of Southern Ore gon college will discuss a pro posed bill regarding new school reorganization. Parents of Grif fin Creek school children are requested to attend the meeting since the bill may concern that school district. To Wait Point James H. Rickman of Medford and Ed ward W. Anderson of Spokane, Wash., were named this week to represent Gonzaga university of Spokane at the West Point Military academy Sesquicenten nial March 27 and 30, according to the university. Both are senior students in the ROTC program at Gonzaga. Along with ROTC students from other colleges and universities of the nation they will spend the four days living as nearly as possible the "life of a West Point cadet," Gonzaga officials said. Rickman is a graduate of Medford St. Mary's academy and son of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Rickman, 1032 West 11th street. HOSPITALIZED Paul E. Larson, a coowner of Modern Plumbing and Sheei Metal works, was hospitalized and released about 12:30 a.m. to day for injuries received when a company truck he was driving left the highway near Oak Grove school. ' He was treated for a sprained shoulder, according to a hospital report, and is confined to his home. He was taken by Conger-Morris ambulance to the hospital. C. 58 Yakima 49 Three Men Given 3-Year Sentences " Three Jackson county men received suspended three-year jail sentences in circuit court here yesterday, according to the office of District Attorney Paul Haviland. Robert Lee Smith, 35, of 308 Chestnut street, was given a suspended sentence for passing a worthless $10 check at Wain scott's Drug store, February 2. Charles Wayne Gordon, 26, of 834!4 Cherry street, Central Point, and Joseph Lester Do ney, 47, of the 12th Street Trail er court, Medford, were given suspended sentences for the theft of storage batteries from the Elliott Motor company ware house, 1716 North Riverside avenue, on January 16. Two men were taken to Ore gon state penitentiary in Salem by Sheriff Howard Gault this morning. They were Alfred Jo seph Orlow, sentenced to a three year term for grand larceny, and George Frederick, who es caped from the penitentiary February 29 and was captured here yesterday by state police. Mystery Disease Kills Coconuts in Philippines Manila, . P. I. (U.R) A mys terious disease is causing $750, 000 damage annually to cocoanut trees in one' of the Philippines,' principal copra producing re gions. Known as kadang-kadang, the disease is prevalent in southern Luzon and is not known to occur in any other part of the world. A survey showed that more than 1,500,000 cocoanut-bearing trees are dying from the- disease. Dying trees produce few or no nuts, which are the source of copra, one of the island's prin cipal export crops. ROBERT SWO APE Funeral services for Robert Louis Swoape, 43, who died at his home, 106 Clark street, Tues day, will be conducted from Perl funeral home Friday at 1 p. m. with the Rev; Shelvy Anglemyer, pastor of First Christian church, officiating. In terment will be in Siskiyou Memorial park. Mr. Soape was born at Marble Falls, Tex., on April 12, 1908. He had lived here for the past 31 years and was a logger. TIFTFXat Young Bike Rider Hurt in Accident Gene Allen McQuigg, nine-year-old son of Mrs. Maxine Mc Quigg, 224 Portland avenue, suf fered shock and bruises this morning when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car, according to city police. The accident happened at about 8:40 a. m. at the intersection of East Main and Lindley streets. ! Kenneth Waldorf Nottingham, j 39, of 3686 Crater Lake avenue, driver of the car, was not cit ed, police said. Investigating of ficers reported the boy appar ently did not see Nottingham's car and turned his bicycle di rectly into the side of it.
