Ml Rural Fire District Proposal Will Be Discussed Thursday Organization of a rural fire district in the Lone Pine area will be discussed at a regular meeting of the Lone Pine Parent-Teacher association Thursday at 8 p.m., according to officers of the group. Fire Marshal Truman Nelson of Medford will be the principal speaker and there will be a ques tion and answer period follow ing his talk. Insurance represen tatives will also attend to discuss lower insurance rate?, which would be obtained und;r a rural fire protection program. Boundaries Told The proposed district Is bound on the north by Coker Butte road, to the east by North Phoe nix and Foothills roads west by Arnold lane and the Jacksonville-Central Point highway and south to Carpenter Hill road, of ficers state. The Central Point rural fire district officers plan to include the district to the north of the Lone' Pine district, they added. Oscar Chirin has been active in formulating the Lone Pine rural fire district plans. Residents within the boun daries of this district were re quested to attend the Thursday evening meeting. Turkey Restricts Iron Curtain Diplomats Ankara, Turkey (U.R) The Turkish government has decided to follow other NATO nations in restricting travel of Soviet and other Iron Curtain diplomats, it was learned Wednesday. The affected Communist diplo mats will be notified of the de cision shortly. They will be re quired -to disclose their itiner aries to Turkish authorities beforehand. Attempt To Grab Nation's Resources Alleged by Cain Washington U. Sen. Har ry P. Cain charges that the Inte rior Department is trying to grab control of the country's na tural resources. The Washington Republican made the charge Tuesday during Senate debate on a measure for federal control of the oil-rich "tidelands." Would Giva Encouragement Cain said passage of the meas ure would "give the Interior De partment encouragement to pro ceed immediately with a nation wide program of collectivization and nationalization of all basic natural resources in all 48 states. Cain said the Interior Depart ment now is trying to "strip the state of Washington of its coastal submerged lands and resources" by asserting the federal govern ment's claim of "paramount rights" to them. This claim has been upheld by the Supreme Court. Hew Teacher Staff At Silefz School Siletz, Ore. U.R) Classes at Siletz high school were under way again Wednesday with a full staff of new teachers. The new staff replaced nine high school teachers who walked out in a body last week, includ ing Superintendent Marion Whit taker. The teachers who resigned are not eligible for other teach ing jobs in Oregon for the rest of the year. They blamed commu nity dissension for their mass resignation. Safe Carted Off Whatever the exact figure, burglars 12 days ago carted off Redfield's 400-pound safe from his gloomy stone chateau. It was crammed with cash and secur ities. The robbery executed in broad daylight came off while the family dog, "Mac," chewed happily on a hambone. Redfield himself was playing roulette at a downtown casino. The first break in the case came Tuesday when an attractive redhead's passion for playing blackjack triggered a chain of circumstances which resulted in Omak Lake Seen Out For Navy Blast Test Omak (U.R) Omak lake ap parently was out Wednesday as a possible site for proposed Navy underwater demolition tests. Morris J. Mundorf and Bruce A. Liesch, U.S. geological sur vey, said soundings made Mon day showed the lake is only 325 feet deep at its deepest spot. Mundorf said he understood the Navy requires a depth of 1,000 feet for the tests. Omak lake, 10 miles southwest of here, was suggested as an alternate site after a storm of protests caused the Navy to post pone "indefinitely" the tests originally scheduled for Lake Pen Oreille in north Idaho. the arrest of an ex-convict in connection with the robbery. " Held on Federal Charge Andrew R. Young, 46, was picked up Tuesday in his shabby apartment in Milwaukee, Wis., and several hours later was ar raigned on a federal charge of transporting stolen property across the state lines. The mysterious r e d h e ad, whom authorities refused to identify, unwittingly touched off Young's arrest when she at tempted to cash a $1,000 bill during a gambling spree at Reno's Riverside Hotel casino. The huge bill aroused the sus picions of Mert Wertheimer, co owner of the casino, and he sig naled the cashier to check' it Home Here Chosen For Landscaping The J. D. Rose property, 501 Melrose avenue, has been se lected as the Medford location for a landscaping demonstration by county office of the Oregon State college extension service, C. B. Cordy, county agent for horticulture, said today. April 10 at 1:30 p.m. is the date and time of the demonstra tion and the public is invited. Cordy said that the Rose prop erty at the southeast corner of the senior high football field, has bee nselected because it is regarded as similar to many others in Medford. The Roses will furnish the shrubs specified by I. B. Solberg, landscape architect and mem ber of the Oregon State college faculty. On April 11 a similar dem onstration will be conducted at the Samuel B.' Smith home on East Evans creek 5V miles from Rogue River. against a list of the currency missing in the Redfield robbery. At first she couldn't find the bill's serial number on the Red field list. A few minutes later, however, she matched it. Wertheimer called the redhead into his office. F.B.I, in Action "You're in trouble real trouble," he told her and called police. When they arrived, the girl said "a guy in Milwaukee" had given her the $1,000 bill along with several $100 bills, one of which she had cashed a short, time before she tried to break the "G-note." The FBI went into action and a few hours later Young was in custody. Robert Murphy, FBI agent-in-charge at Milwaukee, said "about $600" in currency was found in Young's apartment, but that he was unable to trace the money to the Redfield burglary. A further search was planned. Redfield, meanwhile, took the announcement that Young had been arrested as calmly as he had taken everything else in the robbery. "Gosh,' 'he said. Douglas Fir Mill Production Declines Portland U.R) A six per cent decrease in lumber . production at Douglas fir sawmills during the first two months of this year was blamed Wednesday on last summer's 40-day closure of log ging camps due to fire weather. Harris E. Central Reasons Yhy TV lot Expected Here Soon Told Rotary Some of the reasons why Portland, Denver, Medford and countless other sizable cities and towns do not have television were explained to local Rotar ians by Jimmy Dunlevy, KYJC manager, at their Tuesday meet ing. The principal reason' given by the speaker was the "TV freeze" an action of the Federal Com munications Commission taken in September, 1948, whereby they froze all TV licenses until their engineers could work out the problem of proper spacing for stations on the same chan nels, and to afford them time to develop a new band of ultra high frequency channels to meet the increasing demand for ..TV" li censes. With most of these problems solved, the long-awaited "thaw" is expected to be announced by the FCC sometime between March 15 and April 1, 1952. Other Factors Other factors contributing to the curtailment of TV activities include material shortages, new developments such as color sys tems which have caused a great deal of controversy vithin the TV industry, increased costs of programming, and legal techni calities brought on by the entry of motion picture and sports in terests in the television field. Two UHF channels have been tentatively allocated for Med ford, and are available to any individual or group with suffi cient capital to construct and operate a local station. Because of the high cost of equipment and relatively small potential revenue for the first few years, most local investors are willing to wait until after the TV freeze has been lifted to study the success or failure of a TV operation in communities of similar size, Dunlevy said.
