Ten years ago a book titled
Childbirth Without Fear, by
Grantly Dick Read, M.D., 2.
published, in America (my copy
has disappeared and I forget the
publisher's name). I advise every
expectant mother to read this
book and, if possible, engage a
doctor who not only "permits"
the husband to remain but in
sists on the husband's attendance.
One after another hospital or
lying-in institution is changing
over from 19th century methods
to rooming-in, as the modern
method is called. While the old
timers still have their way most
hospitals will coast along with
the 19th century methods the
customers are pretty gullible
anyway. But in the next ten
years we shall see the last of
those quaint exhibits of the old
time obstetrics, the mingling
(and too often cross-infection) of
newborn infants behind a plate
glass show window, and the mon
key cage where the dear. sissy
boys are kept sweet and inno
cent while their wives are in
carcerated like animals, sepa
rated from their mates, at the
mercy of the hospital staff. I say
this separation of man and wife
at the most sacred moment of
their married life is a large fac
tor, in divorce. I can't under-

There was more rousing talk
and stirring doings in the West
ern Washington Farm Forestry
Association's annual meeting at
Tacoma than I've ' heard and
seen in a coon's age. And the

tures in a series being given
here at the new Bible auditorium
at 910 South Central avenue, it

Evangelist Harold Metcalf
spoke twice, at 3 p. m., when the
audience numbered about 500,
and at 7 p. m., when more than
700 attended.
The evangelist using differ
ent texts on the subject of
"Heaven", described thi future
world as a tangible place.
"Heaven is not a ghost land nor
a spook country," he said, "but
is as real a place as any on which
you have ever placed your feet."
Changes Predicted
The speaker claimed that
heaven will, have a new location
after 1,000 yerrs, according to
his interpretation of the last
three chapters of the Bible, On
earth, he said, after a complete
renovation, there will be a pro
gram of building and planting, a
"back to the soil" movement, and
on an own your own home
growth. The Prop'.iet Isaiah
shows it "will not be a la-y man's
country," Mr. Metcalf said.
A song and pantomime ver
sion of "How Betsy Made the
Flag" was a feature of the eve
ning, and both services opened
with congregational singing of
"The Star Spar sled Banner."

day this week at 7:30 p. m.

nation-wide buyers of graded
Christmas trees in good condi
tion for the retail market. A pro
gram like that of the West Coast
Bureau of Lumber Grades and
Inspection was approved for
development.
Needle blight is another kind
of Christmas tree problem.
