Rogue River Hicks Bonanza 48-47 In First 5-B Title Encounter; Second Fracas at Henley Tonight Klamath Falls (Special from the Herald and News) Bonanza pushed the highly rated Rogue River team into overtime last night before the Chieftains squeaked out a 43-47 victory in the first game of the District 5-B playoffs at Henley. The Rogues had the upper hand In the first half and, with sharpshooter Jim Boulter lead ing the way, the Jackson county champs left at intermission time with a 26-18 bulge. But Irwin Crume and Julian Hood waxed warm for Bonanza In the third quarter as the Antlers pulled to within one point of Rogue River, 33-34, going into the hectic last frame. . Kite Hue ; Bonanza went ahead 38-36 early In the fourth but Byron Kile, the eventual hero of the piece, tied it twice at 38 and 40-alL With the count 45-43 for Bonanza, Kile slipped in with a lay-in with five seconds left to nd It Into overtime at 45-alL Boulter's free throw put the Chiefs ahead 46-45 but Crume came back with a side shot to give Bonanza a one-point lead. Kile again cinched it for Rogue River with a big two-pointer from the key. Boulter and Crume each scored 19 points. The teams meet again Thurs day night. Houbregs Best Duck Opponent Eugene , (U.R) Bob Hou bregs Washington's outstanding center, and Chuck Darling, an other star at the pivot post from University of Iowa, were voted the est players the University of Oregon faced- this season, it was announced Thursday. Darling edged Houbregs for the most valuable opponent hon or, but both were unanimous choices for the all-opponent team. Other players making the list were Frank Gumess, Washing ton; Glen Smith, Utah, and Bob Clifton, Iowa. Panelshake Crowned State AAU Basketball Champion Portland (U.R) Panelshake Siding of Portland won the Ore gon state AAU basketball title Wednesday night by - edging Everybody's Drug of Eugene, the defending Champ 52-51. The Druggists played the final five minutes with only four men in action because four players fouled out. A pair of long shots by Jim Calderwood and Jackson Win within one point of Panelshake in the closing minutes but the latter held on to win. Hillman and family and Mrs. Orin Welde of Pacific Palisades, Calif., were guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hunt of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Langhoff have a married daughter living in Medford. , Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lane of Shady Cove, left March 5 for San Louis Obispo, Calif., to attend the funeral of his sister-in-lawj Mrs. Roy Lane of that city.- Mrs. Lane saw her sister-in-law a shorta short time before she died when she was down' to see her aunt, Mrs. M. Rittenhouse who was a patient in the same' hos pital. . A number of people have been reported ill, among them Carol Bailey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Bailey of Shady Cove, Mrs. Mary Clark of Trail is also reported having the flu. The list was headed by Canadian Prime Min ister Louis St. Laurent and Canadian Foreign Minister Les ter B.' Pearson. ' In addition to the old city or dinance requiring collection of water fees for multiple unit dwellings, recently pointed out by city council members,' a building permit ordinance also is not generally being observed, he said. Any building or remod eling which exceeds $50 requires a building permit, costing $1, the councilman said. Permits can be obtained from the city recorder. Jack Long is the city building inspector, he said. Dog owners in the city are reminded that dogs are not to run at large during the garden ing months of April, May, June and July.
