Housewarmng Monday Honors Ramos Family At Clovr Lone Home - A bousewarming was given by Mrs. Jack Wilson and Mrs. H. J. McCary 'for Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Ramos and family at their new home, 141 Clover Lane, Monday evening. Present were Mrs. T. O. Earn est, Mrs. Lee Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. William Gustafson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kurovsky and 'chil dren, Karen and Dennis, Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Roser.berger and children, Gary and Linda, Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Walden and Oveta Walden, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Chri tian and Miss Joan Christian; Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jones and children, Marie Louise and Billy, Mr., and Mrs. Roland Washburn and children, Carol Lee and Pat ty Ann, Gold Hill. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. H. J. McCary and son, Danny, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wil son, the honored guests, Mr. and Mrs. John Ramos and chil dren, Jerrilee and Gary. They received many gifts. Games were played and Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Rosenberger and Mr. Walden won prizes. Oveta Walden entertained with several musical selections on the accordian, and refreshments were served. To Meet Delphian society members will have Mrs. Vern Wilson as their leader when they meet Tuesday, March 4 at 1:30 p. m. in the home of Mr?. (Brainerd photo) Speaker Says Positive Plan Needed for Foreign Policy "It is not enough for America to sneeze whenever Stalin shakes the pepper pot," declared Roy McCorkel in an address on for eign policy given at the YMCA Thursday evening. "A great weakness of the United State's foreign policy is that we have been too content with reacting to the movements of others. What we need is a positive plan to pre sent to the world. What the world needs from us is dirction and a dream. Without them our guns and dollars may fail," he said. "Even our Voice of America broadcasts are weak so long as they expend themselves in tell ing Europeans that Communism is evil," the speaker continuued. "Who is better aware of that than those who live with it? Our ef forts should go toward telling them what we have to offer that is better. "We also err in assuming that Communism can be destroyed by destroying Russia. Commu nism is a world-wide idea, a faith, growing out of the newlyr awakened demands - of the world's underprivileged for their share of food and freedom. "Strengths of our American foreign policy lie in its excep tionally good leadership, arid in the fact that decisions have not been made unilaterally, without consultation of other peoples concerned. The Marshall Plan, enabling Europe to make a mir aculous recovery from the dev astation of World War II, is de cidedly the best investment we have ever made.1 When it seems too costly, we should compare its total cost with the cost for a same period, and compare the achievements of the two pro grams over a number of years. "While not an official expres sion of foreign policy, CARE packages sent by individuals in Couple Leaving ; To Live in South Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Wertz left today for Southern California where they will live in the fu ture. They have sold their home in Gold Hill where they lived for some time. A valley artist, Mr. Wertz is known here par ticularly for his old times se ries and a series of Jacksonville scenes in water colors. Through exhibiting his paint ings recently in Michigan, Mr. Wertz has been commissioned by a magazine for the Jackson ville series and Rogue Valley scenes and 10 of his paintings are to appear in the magazine in full color early next fall. He also has . been scheduled for exhibits in five states during the next six months. At the present he is to begin a series of old California mission and San Francisco, street scenes. Mr. McCorkel, Southern Eu ropean director of CARE from 1949 to 1951, was presented here under the auspices of the United Council of Church Women in co operation with the Portland re gional office of the American Friends Service committee. Mrs. Harlan P. Bosworth Jr., who was in charge of local arrange ments, introduced the speaker. With Mr. McCorkel was Wilton Hartzler, college and peace sec retary of the American Friends Service committee, Portland re gional office, who distributed in formational literature on the committee's peace program. Mr. McCorkel also addressed the United Council of Churcft Women during their observance of the World Day of Prayer at the' First Church of the Naza rene Friday afternoon and par ticipated in the "Household Edit or's" program broadcast from I radio station KMED. Initiation Planned By Medford Bethel Medf ord bethel, Job's Daugh ters, will initiate candidates in a formal ceremony set for Fri day, March 7, in the Medford Masonic temple. The initiation, to be followed by the traditional closing ceremony of the bethel, will be held as a part of the reg ular meeting of Medford Ma sons. Parents of members of Job's Daughters, parents of the candi dates and members of Order of the Eastern Star are invited to attend. The meeting is set for 7:30 p. m. It is announced that no bethel meeting will be held Saturday, but officers are to practice at the temple at 4 p. m. Monday. In Corvallis Miss Robene Starcher, 1570 Stage Road south, is spending the week-end in Corvallis as a guest of her cousin, Miss Nancy Lee Swan. This afternoon the two will attend the annual daughter-sister dinner of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority at Oregon State college, of which Miss Swan is a member.
