A Detroit restaurateur cut his
prices back to the prewar level
and the result was increased
profit Now a Cleveland eatery
maestro has done the same thing.
The Clevelander is offeiing a
complete chicken dinner for $1,
a roast beef sandwich for 35
cents, a hamburger plate for a
quarter. He has also slashed his
liquor prices, offering a drink of
whiskey for 20 cents and an old
fashioned schooner of beer for IS
cents. He is doing a terrific busi
ness. Brings to mind the old bus
iness adage: "Give them value
and you get volume."

It has been ruled in Scotland
no Scotch whiskey can be ex
ported unless at least three years
old. Seems in recent years quite
a little Scotch whiskey younger
than that has been shipped to the
United States of America. In
fact some distillers in Scotland
are protesting the aforemen
tioned ruling. What I would like
to know is, how it is possible to
determine the age of Scotch
whiskey? If it says on the label
it is 16 years old or 20 years old
is it possible to exactly check the
truth of this claim?

Stewart Plaids on Kilts

Division band bagpipe players
said Wednesday they will wear
royal Stewart plaid on their bag
pipes and kilts and dared the
British to do something about it
The bagpipe players ordered
kilts of the Stewart tartan from
Scotland to match the plaid on
10 bagpipes in the section, which
were purchased from a Glasgow
manufacturer.
Bandtmeo Worried
At first the bandsmen were
worried when told they had ap
propriated a privilege that of
wearing the royal Stewart tar
tan which had taken the king's
own Scottish bor dorrs of the
Commonwealth Division in Ko
rea 230 years to earn by gallant
soldiering.
Lt. William R. Gasbarro of
Columbus. O., the band's com
mander, said the band was en
titled to wear the plaid.
"We are going right ahead and
wear the stuff because we've Just
found out we have a beginner
in the bagpipe section who has
royal blood in his veins," Gas
barro said.
Ceneology Traced
The man "with royal blood
in his veins" was David C An
dersen, 22. Venice, Calif, who
began playing one of the band's
bagpipes only two weeks ago.
"My aunt was very interested
in geneology, and she figured
out that our family dates back
to the royal Scottish line," said
Andersen. "She says we are
related to that guy Clive of
India, too."
