Miss DeMoss held a four-stroke lead over Mrs. Jack Todd of Victoria, B.C., as she set a new course record for women with a 71. Mae a MedfordU1I&Tribukb i 100 Boys at Opening Of Baseball School About 100 boys from eight to 16 years old turned out for open ing day of the Summer Baseball school program at the senior high field yesterday morning, Director Alex McDonald esti mated as he watched three ball games being played at the same time. Ninety youths registered but McDonald said another 10 or more showed up who did not give their names. With only three men in charge McDonald, Bob Newland and Frank Roelandt but three games could be plyed at a time although there were more than enough boys to make up two teams for a fourth game, Mc Donald said. In addition, two men were thrown out of the game for pro testing too loudly over a called strike. Kahut Takes Coast Title At Portland Portland, Ore.. June 27 OJ.R) Joe Tiahut, 181, Woodburn, mythical northwest heavy weight champion, captured the Pacific coast heavyweight crown in a 12-round bout with Grant Butcher, 180, San Francisco, here last night. The judges awarded the fight to Kahut unanimously. The fighters appeared evenly matched in the first round and Butcher got the edge in the sec ond, but from then on it was Ka hut's fight, although he was un able to deliver a knockout blow. Kahut Lost Earlier "Butcher previously beat Kahut who captured the northwest tie from Bill Petersen In Seattle. Butcher was knocked down twice in the sixth round last night and almost didn't get up the second time. Early in the fight, Kahut's timing appeared to be off and Butcher showed a sharp infighting technique. But Kahut opened a cut over his opponent's left eye and from then on seemed able to hit him whenever he wanted to. Late In the bout, Kahut had to repeated ly throw Butcher off. In the ninth round he drew blood from the Californian's nose. Booster Club Meet Tonight Members of the Athletics Booster Club of Southern Ore gon will meet In the Holland ho tel at 8 p. m. today for an im portant meeting that will include plans for the nights honoring E. E. McKinney and Clarence English. This will be the first meeting of the Boosters in several weeks and for this reason much busi ness will be coming up. it was announced by President Les Stamper. Radio station KYJC, through Dick Schuchard, who conducts a sports program over the local station, will present some sug gestions as to how he and the station might help the Boosters. Stamper urged all club mem bers and others interested in the organization to attend this meeting. Justin Smith shot an 80 in the same grouping and was to face Medalist Ray Langston, Portland, today in the opening round. In the junior division Eddie Oldfield qualified with a 78, Phil Getchell with an 80 and Bill McAllister with an 82. Mc Allister had to nip Tom Bourns, Coos Bay, in a play-off to gain the championship bracket. Shepherd was but three strokes higher than Ray Lang ston, Portland, who was medal ist with 75.
