Local Woman's Aid Through CARE Told Good that is being accom plished by Medford contribu tor? to CARE, American relief Scout Camp Opening Scheduled July 9 Camp McLoughlin at Lake o' Woods will open July 9 and will stay open until August 13, George C. Flanagan, Boy Scout camping chairman here has announced. The boys will get , five weeks of camping instead of the usual four this year. Since so many new 11-year-old scouts are eligible for bamp the additional week was necessary so that all scouts would have a chance to attend, Flanagan said. The second, third and fourth periods are filled, leaving the first, July 9 to 18, and the fifth, August 6 to 13, open for more .. reservations. Camp McLoughlin stresses outdoor scoutcraft. Trained in structors are available in all phases of outdoor skills. The 4 rifle range is an added feature, stressing safe handling of fire arms. A fine, competent staff will be provided under the di rection of James D. Harpole, camp director, Flanagan stated. Working with him are Bob Stothers, program director, with Milo Grubb, Martin Johnson and Chris Williams as assis tants, and Bob Hilliard, water front director, with assistants George Goodman, order of the arrow chief, and Pate Niles. Wholesome food will be served under the supervision of Mrs. Trimble and Mrs. Poindexler. Local Youth Enters Naval Academy Monday Ernest Albert Stamm, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Stamm, route 3, box 168, entered the United States naval academy at Annapolis last Monday, accord ing to his parents. A graduate of Medford high school, young Stamm attended Oregon State college last year, and received h 1 s appointment from Congressman Harris Ells worth. STOtt MOO. A Pakistan master of a rail way station, where many refu gees stop, told CARE officials that no refugee is so deserving as Iqbal Ali. He and his wife and child arrived in Pakistan with only a tea kettle and no money. Iqbal was not content to get his government ration free. He pitched in and helped run the refugee camp, it was said. . Left Good Job Iqbal, an excellent mechanic, reportedly left a good job and his savings behind when he fled from India after communal flare-ups in his neighborhood. Mrs. Bates will manage the restaurant. Roots Returning Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Root, 229 Brad ford Way, are leaving today for Reriianria Cal.. to visit his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Root. Myron Root, who has been hospitalized in Redlands for some time, has recovered sufficiently to permit his return to Meaiora the latter part of this week. Aboard Cruiser Billy W. Burk, son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Burk, Gold Hill, is a seaman aboard the heavy cruiser USS Saint Paul, which is participat ing in the reserve officers' Pa cific cruise this month. Burk en tered the navy last August, and formerly attended Gold Hill high school. Rabbit Breeders A regular meeting of Southern Oregon Rabbit Breeders association will be held in the county court house, Monday evening, June 26. Joel Barker will speak on "everyday management prac tices that mean success or fail ure." To Convention Clarence R Schmidt, representative for the Metropolitan Life Insurance company; left Saturday to at tend a convention held by his company at Tahoe tavern, Lake Tahoe, Cal. The invitation to at tend the company's conference was due to his production rec ord for the past year. Schmidt will be absent from the city for about One week. From California Mr. and Mrs. Neil Iven and son, Michael, two and one-half, have returned to their home in San Bernardino, Cal., after visiting Iven's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Iven. 1006 West Fourth street. Bevis, principal of the Lincoln school, who is doing additional work for his master's degree at the University of Ida ho, Moscow, Ida. They spent Saturday vis iting with friends in Rogue River. To Portland Mr. and Mrs James J. Boyle left Friday for Portland to represent the Jack son County Democratic Central committee at a reception held there for William Boyle, Wash ington, D.C., national chairman of the democratic party, and Mrs. India Edwards, national vice chairman and head of the women's division of the party. James J. Boyle was recently elected democratic congressional committeeman from Jackson county. In Sacramento Mrs. F. C. Loomls, 822 East Ninth street, left yesterday for Sacramento to visit her daughter, Mrs. George W. Mapes, and family, Attend Conference County School Superintendent and Mrs. C. R. Bowman, Ashland, left to day for Salem where Bowman will attend a state conference of county school superintendents. He will be back in his office here Saturday. From Trip Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Wilcox, Evelyn apartments, have returned after a two-month trip. They visited near Gulf Port, Miss., and from there traveled In Florida and north to Boston, New York and Bangor, Me. They also stopped at Niagara Falls and Soo Lock, Mich., as well as in Can ada. They drove the northern route home through North Da kota, Montana and Washington. Son Born Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Offerdal, Grandview, Wash., are parents of a son born there June 16, according to word re ceived here by Mrs. Golda Ed wards, 320 South Grape street, the child s grandmother. The infant weighed eight pounds and has been named Larry Robert. Mrs. Offerdal is the former Miss Jerri Edwards of Medford. . Clauti To Start Eugene Ben nett, who recently returned home from Chicago where he is a student at the Chicago Institute of Art, announced that the clas ses which he will teach this summer will begin this week. The classes are in landscape and still life painting, with special classes for children, and are to last for eight weeks. Tengwald visit ed the Galbreaiths on his trip. Mrs. Galbreaith is the former Miss Natalie Tengwald. Teng wald stated that his daughter and son-in-law plan to visit here soon after July 4.
