On public display at Nash dealer showrooms today, the car is a five-passenger, two-door model claiming up to 30 miles to the gallon at average highway speeds. Grants Pass Sawmills Sign Union Contracts Grants Pass, Ore., June 23 U.R) Swede Basin Lumber com pany, Moore Timber Products company and Cabax Mills have signed contracts with the Lunv ber and Sawmill workers' un ion, it was announced today. The agreements call for a flat wage increase of 10'4 cents an hour, effective June 1. All three groups reached agreements with out dealing with the Klamath basin bargaining committee which had demanded a wage in crease retroactive to May 1. The new scale will be $1.65Vi per hour. ONE GOOD USE FOR CASTOR OIL On Chapel Street in Cana daigua in the days of horse cars, and firemen's conventions the per capita con- sumption of castor oil was, I'd give odds, at least three or four times greater than it is now. I don't believe parents love their chil dren more to day than per ents did when I was a peak ed, pasty-faced Chapel Street with bare feet, patched pants and worms. Yes, indeed, I really had 'em un like most youngsters with pasty face, white lines around the gills etc. I'll never forget I'm not sure I really remember but I re member hearing the incident de scribed how embarrassed the teacher was to find that my trailing garter was not a garter but . . . If Chapel Street kids, or chil dren anywhere else, are subject ed to occasional doses of castor oil in any circumstances today it Dr. Brady kid complete must be because their parents, uncles, aunts or grandparents do not subscribe for the right paper and therefore do not read my column. So far as children are concern ed there is only one reasonable use for castor oil internally and even that is more theoretical than practical. I refer to a single tablespoonful, no less, for acute diarrhea the purpose of the physic in this instance being to sweep out the bad food or other irritant which causes the diar rhea and then bind and lock the bowel, the after-effect for which castor oil is famous. This is the oretically good treatment, but it has never seemed good practice. Some old timers still regard castor oil as safe or non-irritating merely because it is so soft and oily. So is croton oil, yet no one in his right mind would re gard it as non-irritating or safe. Castor oil is just as dangerous as any other physic or cathartic for a child with acute bellyache. Dangerous because its effect would be to spread and aggra vate inflammation in the event that the bellyache is from acute appendicitis or other acute in flammation in the abdomen. (Belly is the front wall of the great body cavity, the abdomen. It is in the belly that the pain of any acute inflammation in the abdomen is felt). Fresh castor oil, and the odor tells whether it is rancid, pro vided no preservative or adul terant is mixed with the castor oil. is an excellent cosmeticemol lient. A few drops of it added to an alcoholic lotion or to a solu tion of a teaspoonful of salicylic acid and or a teaspoonful of re- sorcm in one-half pint of dilute alcohol or your favorite toilet water makes a satisfactory dand ruff remedy part the hair and apply it sparingly to scalp on fingertips every day. In the booklet Cosmetic Blem ishes (for copy send twenty- five cents and stamped self-ad dressed envelope) the first of half a dozen remedies I suggest for warts is castor oil. Apply fresh castor oil to the wart or warts each night. Leave a drop or two in excess on the wart over night, by using a wisp of cotton soaked in the oil, held in place under a bit of adhesive plaster. A great many readers have re ported that this clears the wart or warts from the skin in a week or two. At any rate it can do no harm to try it.
