Aug ust S, first day of the Jackson ville Gold Rush Jubilee, is to be Southern Oregon day, accord ing to P. E. "Scotty" Matheny, general chairman of the third annual Jacksonville Lions club sponsored event. The two-day celebration this year will be Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 0. Main event of the Southern Oregon day program will be the dedication of the old county court house in Jacksonville as the Southern Oregon Historical society museum, according to Matheny. To Make Plant The general chairman also an nounced that a general meeting will be held at 8 p.m. today in the U. S. hotel for the purpose of making plans for Southern Oregon day. The meeting he stated is to be attended by rep resentatives of city governments from throughout Southern Ore gon, Jackson county court and sheriff's office; Grants Pass, Ashland and Medford clubs and merchants, as well as the county chamber of commerce and Jack sonville lodges and civic groups. The spokesman added "we will need help of all of Southern Oregon to make the day a suc cess. We not only consider it an outstanding tourist attraction but a 'red letter" day for all of us home folks." Heading the executive com mittee for the Jacksonville Lions club, with Matheny, are E. E. Mclntyre, O. W. Matheny, A. C. Van Galder, and Ben An derson. Final plans for the jubilee were begun at a meeting of the executive group Tuesday even ing. Committee Meets A meeting of the queen con test committee, with Dr. Roy White, Jacksonville, chairman, was held Wednesday evening. Working with Dr. White on the queen contest are Mclntyre, fi nance, and Lloyd Rupp, who will contact sponsors for queens. Rupp stated that he would con tact business men throughout Medford, Grants Pass, Ashland, Gold Hill, Phoenix, Talent, Ro- cn Thot. The pageant is expected to lure about 100,000 persons into Memorial coliseum. Nearly 15,000 marching Shrin ers staged a parade last night. The 67 prticipating temples marched from downtown Los Angeles to the coliseum where a crowd of 70,000 was on hand for the Nobles' equestrian pageant and mounted patrol show. Imperial Potentate Harold Lloyd, silent screen star, today relinquishes his office to Hu bert McNeil Poteat, Wake For est, N.C., Latin professor. In the most important election of the convention, Dr. Clayton F. Andrews of Sesostrls Temple, Lincoln, Neb., was named Im perial Outer Guard of the Shrine. He defeated George A. Mattison Jr., Zamora Temple, Birmingham, Ala. Baptist Bible School To Conclude Friday The daily vacation Bible school of the First Baptist church will conclude Friday with a program in the church auditorium at 7:45 p.m. Enrollment for the two-week session was about 150, one of the largest schools held at the church in recent years. Mrs. Thomas Gannaway was super intendent, with Mrs. Frank Guber. Mrs. Donald Zimmers, Mrs. W. A. Dawes and Mrs. Emii Peterson as department heads. A picnic was to be held this afternoon at Hawthorne park for children, teachers and par ents, with swimming, games and picnic lunch. The Friday evening program Is designed to show what is taught at the school, and hand work will be on display. US WV Officials Visit Camp White Monday Camp White. 'June 22. Al fred L. Harriman, commander of the department of Oregon, United Spanish War Veterans, with Frank R. Pendergrass, state adjuant, spent a day at Camp White Monday, as the guests of Paul A. Hatton, man ager. The men were accompan ied by Zidonia Quick, chairman of the national child welfare committee and Dora Pender grass, past president of the Unit ed Spanish War Veterans auxil iary. Hatton met the visitors in Eugene where they were attend ing a state convention of the Disabled War Veterans and In vited them to Medford. "We never had any idea that such a facility existed as this station," Commander Harriman said. "I am very much impress ed with everything we have seen. Many of my comrades need a home just such as this. It will be my duty when I get home to inform them." The Portland party left Med ford to return home Tuesday morning. They thought that they might visit the VA hospital in Roseburg. 4-H Youths Conclude Annual Summer School The 43 youths that comprise Jackson county's delegation to the 35th annual 4-H club sum- State college campus will re turn here tomorrow at the con clusion of the 10-day school. , Mary Ann Birdseye, 16, Med ford, was one of 23 girls from all over the state to serve as head of her living organization on the campus. She is one of 1,245 girls enrolled in the course and served on summer session's executive council. Total enroll ment at Cor vail is this year was 1,909. Dead line on Classified Ada: 9:30 p.m. for following day; 10 a.m. Mon day, noon Saturday for Sunday a.m. TLAKlSf IB Thursday, June 22, IS30 Drawings Decide Tie Election Count Salem, Ore., June 22 (U.R) Two candidates for public office in the May 19 primary election have been decided by a drawing after final election results showed there had been a tie vote with their opponents, the state bureau of elections today said it had been informed. In Malheur county, Vernon Wilson got the same number of write-in votes as Ernest Metcalf for democratic candidate. He al so was a republican candidate. No one filed for the democratic nomination, but Wilson won over Metcalf in the drawing. In Morrow county, the district attorney race ended in a dead heat, and Phil Mahoney was picked as democratic nominee over Bradley Fancher, a repub lican nominee. However, Mahoney has pub licly stated that he does not want the nomination. Under state law Mahoney must file a notice of withdrawal from the candidacy if he does not want the nomina tion.
