Shot Wounds Youth; Condition Said Fair Salem, Ore., June 22 (U.R) Twelve-year-old Howard Clem ens, accidentally shot last night by a 13-year-old companion with a .32 revolver that "wasn't load ed," was in fair condition this morning as Salem General hos pital attendants said the boy showed some improvement. Howard was shot in the left side of the chest by Ronnie Ku cera at the letter's home. City police ruled the shooting as acci dental, and Ronnie said he "was certain the gun wasn't loaded" when he pointed it at young Clemens. Compromise Rent Bill Approved by House Washington, June 22 (U.R) The house today approved a com promise bill to continue rent con trol on a local option basis for up to 12 months more. The vote was 174 to 145. The measure was sent to the senate where favorable action also is assured. The present rent law expires June 30. There was no fight as the house put its final okay on the com promise bill drafted by a confer ence committee after house and senate passed extension bills in slightly different form. EARTHQUAKE RECORDED Cleveland, O., June 22 (U.R) The seismograph at John Car roll university early this morning recorded an earthquake lasting for two hours located near the New Guinea or the East Indies according to Dr. Henry Birken-hauer.
