(UP' Athletic Director Bob Qumn of Eastern Oregon college said today the Mountaineers would open their 1950 football schedule September 16 at Lin field college. EOC's first Oregon collegiate conference contest will be with Orgon Tech at Pendleton Sep tember 23, Quinn said. Famed Traveling Teams Due Here Two exhibition baseball games involving some of the nation's ton teams have been scheduled for Medford this summer, it was announced today. On July 27 the Harlem Globe trotters, Abe Saperstem s fanv ous team of duskies from Chi cago, will play the Brooklyn Cuban Giants, a team which is making its first western tour after meting with considerable success on the cast coast in past seasons. The House of David, famed whiskered nine from Benton Harbor, Mich., will take on the Kansas City Monarchs, a Negro aggregation formerly headed by Satchel Paige, here on August 5. June 21 U.R) Joe DiMaggio of the Yankees re corded his happiest triumph to day on the same scene of his most heart-breaking failure. The 35 - year old outfielder cracked out the 2.000th hit of his career in a game against Cle veland last night at Municipal stadium, the same nark in which his 56-game hitting streak was stopped on July 18, 1941. When DiMaggio registered his 2.000th hit a line single over Shortstop Ray Boone's head in the seventh inning the game was halted and he was presented with the ball. Only other active players in the select fraternity are Luke Appling of the Chicago White Sox with 2,733 hits and Wally Moses of the Philadelphia Ath letics with 2,064. George Pain Gives Up Seven Hits for Victory Riverside. Cal., June 21 (U.R) George "Whitey" Pain, former Medford. Ore., Nuggets pitcher, helped Riverside to gain a full game in its battle with Las Vegas for fifth place in the class C Sunset league standings by pitching Kiverside to a 7 to 4 vic tory. The former Nuggets hurler al lowed the Nevadans but seven hits in racking up this latest victory. Talbert Rated 'Hope' For U. S. in Tennis London, June 21 (U.R) Bill Talbert of New York, the lead ing U. S. hope in the men's sin gles of the Wimbledon tennis championships, today drew Nor man Kitovitz of England as his first round opponent for next Monday's opening competition. Talbert, who was seeded sec ond, was placed in the bottom half of the 128 man bracket, while Frank Sedgman of Austra lia, the 1949 runnerup and top seeded player this year, was spotted at the top of the draw. The proposal was made by the Earl ol Darnley who said the American and Russian leaders should "formulate some plan of co-existence." It was rejected by Minister of Civil Aviation Lord Paken ham who said "it is my opin ion that such a London three power meeting is impracticable." Mills said lack of housmz fa cilities is costing the state much money in overtime pay and that construction of the new dormi tory would permit an increased staff and lessen the burden on the present nurses.
