Ten B-36 Crews Await Orders for What May Be Epoch-Making Flight ' W.dnasdar. June 11, 1930 MEDfORD OREGON MAIL TMBUNZ FIVE Fairficld-Suisan Air Base, Cal.. June 21 ttJ.B Ten Giant B-36 bombers and their crews awaited orders today to take off on what some observers believed might be an epoch-making trans Pacific flight. The airplanes were gassed up and ready to go on what the air force officially described as an "operational practice flight." Pretty Good Guest An air force spokesman said the destination would not be known even to the air crews un til final orders are received from the strategic air command in Washington. But. he added, it might be a "pretty good guess" that the flight would include "a Progress, Growth Of SOC Revealed In Two Reports Ashland, June 21 Growth of Southern Oregon college was indicated in two separate news items reported here yesterday. Mrs. Mabel Winston, registrar, said that enrollment figures for the summer session here show a first-day increase of 30 per cent over last summer's. And Dr. Elmo N. Stevenson, president, reported that the state board of higher education has approved a million dollar expansion pro gram for the college, involving construction of six new build ings. Monday's registration for summer courses was 369, com pared with 280 the same day last year. Registration will con tinue until next Monday. Some 500 students are expected be fore registration closes, Mrs. Winston said. New Buildings Planned In the construction program. Dr. Stevenson said that a quarter-million dollars are earmark ed for a physical education plant at Fuller field, including both men's and women's gymnasium facilities. A similar sum will go for a central heating plant and about $200,000 for a new men's dormitory. Also scheduled for construc tion during the 1952-53 bienni um are a S250.000 science build ing, a $250,000 music-arts unit and rehabilitation of Churchill hall and Memorial court. Under the plans the present gymnasi um would be converted to a student union building and would include a little theater, lounges and facilities for other campus activities. The singer arrived home yes terday from a bachelor's so journ in Europe. He got off a train at a substation to avoid newsmen. While Crosby was in Paris rumors popped up that he and his wife of 20 years were sep arating. Both he and Dixie de nied the story.
