Newspaper Page TextSociety and Cu&K2J Butte Falls Group Takes New Member; Officers Nominated Butte Falls Mt. Pitt club met June 15 at the home of Mrs. Booth Dyer. Twelve members at tended and Mrs. David Bergran, who formerly lived in Washing ton, became a new member. The president, Mrs. Bill Ray nane, read a letter from Mrs. Harold Johnston thanking the club members for a farewell gift. A "thank you" card from Mrs. Roy Menteer was also read. Mrs. Lloyd Tungate gave a financial report. The club plans a wiener roast Saturday, June 24, at 6 p. m at Whisky Springs. Each member attending is to bring a potluck dish and service for their own family. Wieners, coffee and soft drinks will be furnished by the club. Officers' for the coming year were nominated and election will be held at the July meeting. Nominated for president and vice-president were Mrs. Ken neth Rodgers, Mrs. Roy Menteer, Mrs. Elma Elufson, Mrs. Charles Capello, Mrs. Bruce Burton and Mrs. B. K. Boatman; for secre tary, Mrs. Bob Driskell, Mrs. Dick Zimmerlee and Mrs. Booth Dyer; treasurer, Mrs. Leslie Ca sey, Mrs. David Bergran and Mrs. Henry Tygart. Next meeting of the club will be at the home of Mrs. Driskell, June 29. and will be the birthday meeting. As the close of the meeting refreshments were served by Mrs. Dyer, assisted by Mrs. C. Capello. Phoenix Class Holds Meeting Friday Night Phoenix Homemakers' class of the Phoenix Presbyterian class held the monthly social and business meeting at the church Friday, with 24 present. Plans had been made for an out door wiener roast, but due to the weather, an indoor event was held, with the wiener roast held around the fireplace in the par lor of the church. The committee, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Nicodemus and Mr. and Mrs. Ed White, had charge of enter tainment and furnished the des sert, climaxing the wiener roast with watermelon. During the business meeting it was decided that in the future the expenses of each dinner and meeting would be met by the class rather than by the host committee. Election of officers will be held at the next meeting. Of ficers serve for a period of six months and during the past term Vincent Claflin has been presi dent and Mrs. Claflin secretary. -r r -l j. r io rorm viiciliici British Daughters Women eligible for member ship in Daughters of the British Empire will gather at Girls' Community club tonight at 8 o'clock to organize a Rogue Riv er valley chapter of the group. A pre-organizational meeting was held not long ago and it is expected that the new group will be chartered within two or three weeks. Officers are to be elected at the meeting tonight. Mrs. R. B. Hall, Mrs. Florence Benner and Mrs. G. W. Ailing ham have been Instrumental in forming the new group, and any one interested may call Mrs. Hall. 2-9003, for additional in formation, and is invited to at tend tonight's meeting. Job's Daughters n Central Point Plan Installation Central Point Installation of officers for the coming term will be held by the Central Point bethel of Job's Daughters Thurs day at 8:30 p. m. in the Masonic temple in Central Point. Miss Laural Jewett. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Jewett, will be installed honored queen, and the retiring queen is Miss Jan Free man. Preceding the installation cere monies the bethel will give a formal banquet in Miss Free man's honor. Installing officers will be Miss Freeman, queen; Miss Jean Ham ilton, a past queen, installing guide; Mrs. Archie Quacken bush, past queen, installing mar shal, and Miss Patsy Faber, past queen, installing musician. Miss Donna Nealon will be chaplain; Mrs. Clyde Barlow, secretary: Miss Aylene Hopkins, installing senior custodian, and Mrs. Rob ert Jantzer, junior custodian. Social Club Members To Picnic Wednesday; Plan Chapter Reports A potluck picnic luncheon will be served at the home of Mrs. A. W. Denney for Reames Social club members, Wednesday, June m, at 12:30 p. m. Those who need transporta tion are to call Mrs. L. S. Ettin- ger. phone 3-1679. Members are reminded to take table service. In event of rain, the meeting will be held in the Masonic hall. Reames chapter. Order of the Eastern Star, will meet June 22 at 8 p. m.. in the Masonic hall, for initiation and reports of the grand chapter session to be given by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Purdin, worthy patron and matron. Jackie Schmidt Leaves for South Miss Jackie Schmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schmidt, South Pacific highway, has left for Norfolk. Va., where she will spend the summer with her brother, Lt. Rodney Schmidt, Mrs. Schmidt and their son. When she returns in the fall, Miss Schmidt will enter Occi dental college in Los Angeles, where she will study under a scolarship. Miss Schmidt expects to become an art teacher. She has studied at Southern Oregon college in Ashland since gradu ating from Medford high school. Miss Schmidt's mother is a graduate of Occidental college. Miss Schmidt made the trip east by motor with Miss Hugh Bell, teacher in the Phoenix schools, and Miss Bell's mother. To Give Party Medford Navy Mothers' club will sponsor a card party at the veterans' center at Camp White Wednesday evening. Members of the club are asked to meet at 106 Almond street for trans portation to the camp, and those attending are asked to take pies for the refreshment hour. Annual Drama Festival Ashland, June 19 Try-outs were being held today for the 10th annual Shakespearean fes tival, with the largest number of aspirants ever to appear on hand. It is hoped that casting can be completed by the end of tonight's session, sheduled for 7 p. m. at the Elizabethan thea ter. The festival will run from August 2 to 24 this year, and has attracted more nation-wide publicity already than in past years. All members of the directorial staff, under the supervision of Producing Director' Angus Bow mer, are expected to be on hand for the casting. They include James Sandoe, assistant profes sor of library science at the Uni versity of Colorado: Richard Graham, New York, and Allen Fletcher, Purdue university. Doug Russell of Stanford univer sity will again handle costum ing and Otto Wilds will direct art work. Miss Carol Eller, also of Stanford, will direot dance se-uaences. Bowmer this week-end ex Dressed pleasure with the out look for the 10th annual produc tion. "There is no question but the quality of our shows this season will far exceed those of past years," he said. "We have a much larger group to choose from, and included in the ap plicants are many experienced actors." Attendance at the productions will also be larger in the past, according to advance indications. The Chamber of Commerce of fice reports that ticket applica tions are already coming in.
