June II, 19301 Eugene Church Looking For Ukrainian Couple; Overdue Coming West Eugene, Ore., June 17 (U.R) The First Christian church her li trying to locate two mis placed, displaced persons. Mr. and Mrs. Waltek Scharl kan. a Ukranian farm couple, arrived in New York, church officers said, and left there a week ago today. A committee of churchmen has met every train arriving from the east since Tuesday but the DP's still hadn't shown up today. They reported that the couple had only sufficient money for the trip. Father Visiting From California Visiting here from San Gab riel, Cal., is Charles A. Clase, father of Mrs. Henry Zacharisen, 714 Beekman avenue. Mr. Clase, who has been here the past week with his daughter and son-in-law, plans to remain about another week. Willamette U. In sDite of, or more likely because of, the fact that they have been in show business for 30 vears. a San Francisco re viewer wrote "the old magic lighted up the house" when the two actresses performed. "The show they put on had more honest talent than most local TV productions and just about as much as the kinescope stuff Imoorted from Hollywood and New York" according to the SF reporter. The republican gals staging the lunchon and style show Fri day afternoon want it distinctly understood that the affair is strictly for fun and that poll tics won't be mentioned (well, not much, anyhow) even though a number of party vifs win be there. The clothes to be shown will come from closets and trunks rather than from the racks of downtown jtores. So that everyone can gel in was followed by a formal din ner at the Royal Hawaiian ho tel. During dinner, which was served in the Terrace dining room, overlooking the ocean, part of the orchestra came over to the table to serenade the new ly engaged couple and played "Ke Kali Nei Au" (the "Ha waiian Weddine Sons"). Miss Beverlee Mooney. who is now employed by the Waikiki branch of the Liberty House as a floor model of Hawaiian clothes, went over to the Islands in October, 1949. to join her sis ter who Is assistant personnel director of Bishop National Bank of Hawaii. Mr. Erieg, who is a graduate of Mercersburg academy and Bucknell university, is a mem ber of Sigma Chi fraternity. He is with the federal bureau of investigation in Honolulu. The Junior Service league carnival Saturday night will serve a double purpose. Not only will it provide club mem bers and their guests an op portunity to have fun with the var.ous games and concessions, but the league also hopes to collect a considerable quantity of folding money for its numer ous charitable projects. Lady Lions members took a gentle razzing Monday morning li'om convention visitors. When they stood up and cheerfully sang "welcome to the Rogue river valley land of the sun shine and pears'' the visitors couldn't resist a few boos. The barbecue the night before had been rained out, and not a ray of sunshine was to be seen Mon day morning. However, the visitors man i mind the weather and they en joyed the convention attractions. Particular mention was oiten made of the table favors. Mon day inornlni there were little jars of jam from the firm ot Harry and David, and folders of matches advertising the cam paign of a Medford member and at noon the visitors received handmade and hand-painted figurines made by the Medford Laciv Lions. Parents are some times not enthusiastic about the musical efforts of the younger genera tion, but those at the musicale which Mrs. Royal Bebb's pupils gave Monday night all seemed to truly enjoy hearing the youngsters play. When it was found that one belated guest had arrived after the imiaic ended, Vern S h a n g 1 e en couraged daughter Carolyn to do her numbers again and be fore long several of the guests had settled down to listen to a second performance.
