Newspaper Page Text- ,i i f 18 Medford Boys To Attend Legion's Beaver Boys' State Eighteen Medford youths have been selected to attend the American Legion's Beaver Boys' state on the Oregon State college campus this year. x Together with hundreds of high school boys from all over the state, the Medford delegates will get practical training and experience in municipal, county and state government procedures. The diary refers to the Amerasia case and shows that Forrestal did not ask for delays in the arrests of six key figures in the case. Duffield has forwarded a page from the diary to the Sen ate committee investigating Communists. BEER COMES HIGH Fort Worth, Tex. (U.R) A Fort Worth waitress landed in jail when an oil broker com plained of an "overcharge" 011 beer. The man said she sold him two bottles of beer after hours. She failed to give him change for the S10 he gave her, he said. Classroom To Tour Midwestern States Stillwater. Okla. U.R Twen ty Oklahoma community leaders will go to school this summer in an Oklahoma A. & M. college "classroom," covering 2,700 miles in seven southeastern states. The class will work from a chartered bus which will take students to their survey of 18 outstanding community projects in Arkansas, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. The four-week bus tour will be part of an eight-week com munity development course un der direction of Dr. C. B. Loomis, head of A. & M.'s community de velopment studies. Loomis said the bus tour through other states will give students first-hand knowledge of rural developments. TVA units, negro education facilities, rural and city school systems, adult education schools, lntercultural youth centers and health pro jects. Ex-Portland Police Chief Taken by Death Portland. Ore.. June 15 (U.R) Leon V. Jenkins. 71, former Portland police chief, died late yesterday at Physicians' and Surgeons' hospital. Jenkins suffered a stroke ear ly Tuesday and was unconscious until his death. He was survived by his wife, a son, a brother and a granddaughter. The veteran officer served as Portland chief from 1919 until 1934 and again in 1946 during the fatal illness of Chief Harry Niles. There will also be other local talent. Dick Schuchard will be master of ceremonies for the third time and Kingfish Frank Perl and Frank DeSouza will be judges. Actress June Storey will award the prizes. To Announce Program The full program for Sunday is yet to be announced. Derby activity will be in the form of a country' style picnic with fam ilies furnishing their own lunch, and the 20-30 club, the sponsor ing organization, the entertain ment and prizes.
