"Tick" Malarker On Saturday mornings Camp White's coffee canteen stay! open only until about noon. The place is busy because the boys often do last minute shopping, stocking up for the week-end. Vera Brooks is in charge of the coffee canteen and the lunch counter. Last Saturday t new little lady was it work. Her nam is Linda Brooks, blonde curly headed miss of 12 years, who was waiting tables and making change with the skill of a vet eran. Linda will go Into the sixth grade it Roosevelt school next "Just cime out to help moth er," she said, "beciuse I know that Saturdays are pretty busy." Then the pretty youngster went her way to aid a "wheel-chaired" Bamboo. "I hive 10 pair of eyes that see for me around this state." So said Vera Thompson, teach er in the private homes of the blind. She works out of Port land is a field representative for the blind commission of the state of Oregon. "My volunteer work ers see for me, she said. With Mrs. Chris Zink. Med ford. who is a volunteer among the 04 or so blind persons in Jackson county. Mrs. Thompson was visiting Camp White last Sunday afternoon. She and Mem ber A. E. Pederson of this sta tion Ire old friends. In fact Vera taught "Pete" braille while they were both in Portland before he came to Camp Whit to become one of the finest rug weavers here. Vera Thompson has been to tally blind for only six years. Her husband. Verge, who is also em ployed bv the commission for the blind, lost his eyesight eight years ago. Sunday's Camp White caller is cheerful and full of fun. She was tonic for the boys that met her on the second floor of, the hobby shop. A word about Chris and Ada Zink. They came here from Kan sas seeking health for Mrs. Zink, who suffered with asthma. Chris works for Copco. Ada keeps house and helps with the blind. In this Valley of the Rogues Happy Valley it should be called she found the climate that re stored her health. Chris and Adi make their home it It South Louis street, Medford.
