Daily Va cation Bible school begins Monday at 9 a.m. Melhodisfs To Mark Wedding Bells Date A "Wedding Bells" service will be held Sunday at 8 p.m. at the First Methodist church. The Rev. Meredith Groves, pastor, will speak on topic "To Love and to Cherish." All couples married by the minister and who have been mar ried in the church or by minis ters of the church are to be spe cial guests. The Vesper choir will sing "The Garden ol Prayer and a mixed quartet U Perfect Love" dedicated to the Wedding Bells guests. Theme by Minister The 11 a. m. service will be broadcast over KYJC. Rev. Groves will speak on the theme "Thy Kingdom Come" in a se ries on "Our Faith in the King dom." The chancel choir will sing "The Lost Chord," the Methodist men "Our Prayer" and Mrs. Lyle Schoppert a solo. Children's Day Set By Presbyterians Children's day will be ob served in the Presbyterian Sun day school Sunday, beginning with a processional of all de partments at 9:30 a. m. The pro gram has been arranged by Mrs. Edith Baker, Sunday school su perintendent, assisted by the leaders of each department. Baptism of children will be a feature of this Sunday school hour. Following the program in the sanctuary, parents will have op portunity to meet with the su perintendents and teachers of their children in the various de partments and to observe the work being done. The committee in charge of the program consists of Mrs. V. F. Birdseye, Mrs. Albert James, Mrs. George Flanagan, Mrs. J. K. Hoey and Mrs. Max Graham. Phoenix Church Plans Daily Vacation School Phoenix, June 9 Phoenix church of the Nazarene will con duct a Daily Vacation Bible school starting Monday, June 12, under the supervision of five teachers who will instruct pre school age and older boys and girls through grade school age. Detroit, Mich., a Youth for Christ evangelist, will be the speaker at the first YFC rally ever held in southern Ore gon, it was announced here to day. The rally will be held at 8 p. m., June 13, in the junior high school auditorium. The undenominational rally is receiving much interest and backing among church people of the valley, and young church choir members of the area are being invited to take part in the rally program. Plan Special Music Special music numbers are planned and are under the charge of Bob Cochran. Mrs. John Eby will be accompanist. Mr. Lonie is one of the better known Youth for Christ evan gelists of the nation, and recent ly concluded a tour of England, Wales and Scotland, where he spoke at schools and rallies. He has addressed more than 500, 000 high school students in these countries. Nazarene Daily Bible School Opens Monday Church of the Nazarene along with many other churches of Medford is conducting its an nual daily vacation Bible school from Monday, June 12, through Friday, June 23. Sessions will be from 9 a. m. to 11:45. The school will close with a picnic on Saturday, June 24, and a D. V. B. S. program presented in the Sunday school hour on Sunday, June 25. Last year 193 boys and girls were registered in the school and it is expected that the regis tration will reach 200 this year. Mrs. Ruth Eby will be director of the school. Church at Trail-Cove Dedication on Monday The Trail-Cove Assembly of God at Shady Cove will have a district fellowship meeting and church dedication on Monday, June 12. An afternoon service will be at 2:30, when Sub-District Pres byter Kelsey C. Prinzing will speak. The evening service at 7:30 will have District Superin tendent Atwood Foster presid ing. Visiting ministers from about 14 churches will be present. There will be special music and singing and the public is invited. Wallis Simpson Insisted Duke Keep Throne, Magazine New York. June 9 (U.R) The Duke of Windsor said today that wallis Wartield Simpson "in sisted" that he remain on the Medford Baptists Anniversary Rites Slated for Sunday The Rev. Kenneth A. Tobias, Salem, field representative for the Conservative Baptist Associa tion of Oregon, will be guest speaker at the 65th anniversary celebration of the First Baptist church, Medford, Sunday, June 11. In addition to his mesages at the 11 a. m. and 8 p. m. services, he will also speak at 3 p. m., at which time the new Sunday school annex recently completed, will be dedicated. A picnic lunch in the church basement at 1 p. m. will com plete the program for the day. Those attending are asked to oring sandwiches, salad and their own table service. There will be special music at every service, arranged by Robert Cochran, choir director. The Rev. Wolford A. Dawes, pastor of the First Baptist church, is completing his 15th year at this church. 1st Christian Church Daily Bible School The annual dailv vacation Bi ble school of the First Christian church will be held June 12 to 23 from 9 to 11:30 a. m., Monday through Friday. Religious in struction and experienced classes will be conducted by the follow ing departments: Nursery, Mrs. Mark Taylor, su perintendent; kindergarten, Mrs. Grover Corum, superintendent; primary, Mrs. Herbert Osborn, superintendent; junior, Mrs. Claude Haggard, superintendent; junior-high. Miss Loma Mae Jones, superintendent. The general superintendent of the vacation church school this year is Mrs. M. R. Ivie. All children of the above de partment age levels who will not be enrolled in any of the other church schools are invited to attend. St. Peter's Vacation Bible School Dated St. Peter's Lutheran church will conduct its annual two weeks' vacation Bible school be ginning Monday morning, June 12, at 1020 East Main street. Sessions will be held daily, Mon day through Friday, from 9 a. m. till noon. There are classes for all chil dren from ages 4 to 15. Sending of children under 4 is not en couraged. The curriculum this year will offer Bible stories, memory courses, memorizing books of the Bible, handicraft projects, cor related with the Bible lessons and sound motion pictures in colors. Foursquare Church To Hear Special Speaker Foursquare church announces a special speaker for both morn ing and evening services Sun day, June 11. During the absence of the pas tors who are attending the Four square convention in Los Ange les, the pulpit will be occupied by Rev. C. W. Powell, a minister who is well known in Full Gos pel circles in southern Califor nia. His topic for the 11 a.m. ser vice will be "Inventory" and in the 7:45 p.m. service he will speak on ''The Most Persistent Knocker in the World Today." Everyone invited to attend. Writing In Lite magazine, the former King Edward VIII told of the final day of his brief reign and Mrs. Simpson's repeat ed attempts to dissuade him from surrendering his crown for the woman I love. Final Installment In the fourth and final install ment of "A King's Story," the duke said Mrs. Simpson told him many times "that it was not too late: I could still draw back." "Her only thought was what was best for me," he said. "Whatever the cost to us per sonally, she insisted that I must remain on the throne." Edward quoted Mrs. Simpson's statement in which she offered publicly "if such action would solve the problem, to withdraw forthwith from a situation that has been rendered both unhappy and untenable." "But it never occurred to me," the duke added, "that she was actually asking to be released from the claims of my love. Yet that was what she meant. County Bond Quota 30 Per Cent Complete Jackson county has achieved 30 per cent of its $150,000 E bond sales quota and now ranks sixth in the state in percentage of sales, Morris B. Leonard Sr., county chairman for the United States savings bond drive, re ported today. Sales in Jackson county last week were $27,056, bringing to tal sales to $45,345, Leonard said. COURT "LOSES FACE" Hong Kong (U.R) Magistrate W. H. Latimer reported that a fountain pen and cigarette case were stolen from his office in the supreme court building. The report recalled Hong Kong's most notorious theft, which still makes judges blush. During a su preme court session, two men dressed in overalls entered the courtroom, put a ladder against the wall and took down the clock. It has never been seen since. Firemen Postpone Dance Rogue River, June B First of the Firemen's benefit dances which was scheduled to be held June 10 in the Rogue River City park, has been postponed until warmer weather. At the regular Wednesday meeting the dance committee re ported $150 cleared on the an nual Firemen's ball given June 3. Fire Chief Gelvin then de livered a check which was pre sented the fire department by Dr. and Mrs. A. P. Klomhaus in appreciation of the volunteer f tremens services In saving their home Saturday night when their shop burned. Gelvin stated the generous donation was more than enough to pay off all in debtedness of the department, which members voted to do at once. When the rural fire depart ment was organized in 1947, $1,500 was borrowed to build the concrete dance pavilion in the city park and each member of the department signed the note. The greater part of the debt has been paid with revenue from the dances in past sum mers and $1,000 worth of equip ment has been purchased also. With easing of the financial strain the firemen at once be gan planning a better and more systematic training program. Be ginning In July the first and third Wednesdays will be train ing nights. The second Wednes day will be devoted to business and lessons. The fourth Wednes days are to be social and recrea tional evenings, which they feel will be an added inducement to gain new members. A picnic barbecue at the city park for firemen and their families was suggested for the first social eve-! ning. ! Marion. Mich. UR Neigh bors of Mrs. Emma Baker called police when they saw a light in her basement, because they knew she was out of town for the winter.
