This tremendous Increase is in response to requests from the national defense establishment, Miss Marco said, and is one as pect of the expanded civilian de fense program now undergoing preliminary organization. To Train Nurses First step in this home nurs ing training program will be a five-day training course and con ference for graduate nurses, Miss Marco explained. The nurses, who have been asked to take the course voluntarily, will receive instruction in methods and principles of teaching home nursing, which together with their professional training will equip them to prepare others for home nursing in emergency con- Queen of Rosaria Receives Royal Crown Portland, Ore.. Highlights of the celebration included a 1.000-voice student chorus led by Songstress Mar garet Whiting, in this year's Festival theme song. "It Hap pened at a Festival of Roses." Swim Show Cancelled The Santa Monica. Cal.. Aquettes and a number of local swimmers did not appear be cause of cold, rainy weather. They were to perform tonight in a huge portable tank con structed on the stadium floor. However, today's weather fore cast again was discouraging as the weatherman said light rain might fall all day and tonight. The forecast also was gloomy for tomorrow, the day of the colorful Rose Festival parade. Instruction will be given from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting July 12. Miss Delia Morgan, San Francisco, Red Cross nursing field representa tive for Oregon, will conduct the classes. May Register Nurses interested in taking the course, and later giving in struction in home nursing, may contact the Red Cross office here, telephone 2-4405. The nurses training, and the courses to follow for Medford residents, are part of the Red Cross' continuing program in home nursing, although a great deal more emphasis is being placed on it now than in the past. The subsequent courses will be given in a series of six two-hour lessons three times a week. They will begin about July 30.
