Made of red, white and blue plastic, the accout erments are lavishly garnished with gold and silver, and will be on display during the week at Barker's Men's store, Medford, where tickets for the ninth annual Rogue River roundup will go on sale tomorrow. Miss Vera Humphrey, director of tiie Junior Red Cross, present ed a concert by the Medford Jun ior high school orchestra. The voting musicians were led bv their instructor. Miss Melba Che hak, and every number given was roundly applauded. Master of ceremonies was Ron nie Robbins, Phoenix high school. Talent was recruited from the Medford, Grants Pass. Ashland. Central Point, Rogue River and Eagle Point schools. Two sisters, Jaunita and Cleo Linton, Ashland, sang to the ac companiment of their own gui tars. Marilee Mason, also Ash land, played piano solos. Nadien Davis, Eagle Point, sang as a so loist and was leader in the group singing which followed. A male quartet from Rogue River high school sang two num bers and a girls' duet was given by a pair from Ashland. Virginia Westeibrook, Rogue River, was the accompanist on the piano. Punch and cakes, baked by the young Red Cross people, were the refreshments. A total of 65 members of the Junior Red Cross performed. About one of every two Ameri cans today is reported to be a church member. L. P. Through Robert Agard, chair man of the trade committee, mer chants have been asked to dress their windows in western theme, commencing tomorrow. The Jackson County Mounted Sher iffs' posse, sponsors of the round up, will award first, second and third prizes for the best deco rated windows. Queen Audrey Woolridge and her princesses, Judy Briggs and Glenda Martin will judge the windows Wednes day, June 7. Mayor Diamond Flynn will is sue a proclamation tomorrow asking cooperation of the resi dents in entering into the spirit of the "wild west" by wearing western outfits through the week. In addition to many local New Organization Meeting for Navy Unit Set Monday Former qualified naval per sonnel and other young men in terested in the naval reserve pro gram are urged to attend anoth er organizational meeting of the electronics company when the group meets at the Federal building, 33 North Riverside avenue, at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Steps are being completed to activate the unit by July 1, ac cording to Lt. Henry Fisher, USNR. "We are particularly anxious to contact young men 17 years or age or older who are eligible to enter the training program," Lieutenant Fisher said. "Instruc tion by qualified experts will be given in radio, radar, and sonar. Rapid advancement is promised those who complete the courses of instruction." To Get Preference Lieutenant Fisher added that many naval reserve volunteers who previously belonged to the electronics warfare unit in Med ford will be given preference in filling the complement of the unit. Since only 20 seaman bil lts are open in the minimum or ganizational plans, qualified men were advised to apply at once for assignment. Other enlisted ratings for for mer navy personnel include radioman, sonarman, radarman, electronics technician, store keeper, and signalman. All en listed ratings will receive com plete sea bags as soon as the unit is activated. Lieutenant commanders under the ase of 40 and junior officers under the age of 36 may still ap ply for assignment. Deck offic ers are particularly desired to complete t n e administrative staff. One of 12 The Medford unit is one of 12 In the Pacific northwest slated for July 1 activation. Others are being formed at Astoria, Corval- lis, Klamath Falls and Nortn Bend in Oregon. The unit would be charged with three major tasks as listed by the bureau of personnel. Activities will include under water defenses using sonar equipment; combat information center using navigational coun ter measures, radar and other devises; and communication us ing radio, infrared, remote con trol devices, visual signaling, and wire lines. Tickets for the rodeo will go on sale at Barker's Men's store tomorrow. Ladies Mounted troop members are cooperating in the sale of the tickets. Roy Roger's silver and gold mount ed saddle which Miss Storey will use will also be on display at the store during the week. Jacksonville Man Held For Animal Cruelly County sheriff's officers Fri day arrested Albert Ryder, Jack sonville, after they learned he had mutilated about four male dogs belonging to his neighbors. He pleaded guilty in justice court Saturday morning and is being' held in county jail with out bail. Complaint against Ryder was filed by Mrs. Sydney Richard son of the Southern Oregon Hu mane society, charging cruelty to animals. District Attorney George Neilson said yesterday that the state's evidence against Ryder will be presented to the court at 2 p.m. Monday, the date set for sentencing. At that time several witnesses from Jackson ville, whose dogs Ryder tied with a rope and then emascu lated with a knife, will appear to testify. The senate approved the com promise bill by a 43 to 27 vote. The house already had approv ed the compromise. Senate ap proval came after a week of de bate and after a year-long battle by opponents led by Sen. Paul H. Douglas, D., 111., who argued that the legislation will weaken anti-trust laws. The bill authorizes a system whereby manufacturers can ab sorb freight charges and sell at uniform prices in specified areas. It provides that there must be no collusion among companies and that the pricing systems do not tend to foster monopolies.
