when he crushed Dick Chapman
of Pinehurst, N. C, 8 and 6. on
the rugged royal and ancient

Stranahan, winner in 1948,
easily ruined Chapman's fifth
bid for the title. The Toledo
strong boy lost only two holes,
the first and 18th. After that,
he consistently outdrove and out
putted the former U. S. amateur
champion.
Stranahan was 7 up after 27
holes and closed out the match
on the 30th.

playoff here.
Pullman, Wash.. May 27 (U.R)
Washington State college and
Stanford squared off again to
day in the second game of the
best of three series and a cougar
win would give the northern di
vision team the Pacific Coast
conference baseball champion
ship. Washington State racked up
two home runs Friday to edge
the Indians 3-2.
Third Baseman Don Paul belt
ed a 360-foot homer over the left
field fence in the second inning
for Washington State's first
score. In the sixth, Rightfielder
Gordon Brunswick sent another
home run over the same spot
with one man aboard.
If Washington State wins to
