(International) Shady Cove -Trail Shady Cove-Trail, May 27 Mr. and Mrs. Jim Steacy, San Pablo, Cal., are parents of a boy born May 24 in San Francisco. This is their second child and first boy. The baby is the first grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Howe of Trail. Mrs. Howe drove to Red Bluff and met her son-in-law and granddaughter, Linda. Mrs. Howe brought Linda back to Trail with her and is keeping her for awhile. Mrs. Claude Close of Trail has been called to Lodi, Cal., by death of her aunt. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Mrs. Frances Stafford of Trail has gone to Los Angeles and vi cinity on a short business trip. H. E. Club of Upper Rogue Grange will serve a turkey din ner at Grange hall on Sunday, May 28 from 1 to 6 p.m. Pro ceeds will go to the building fund. A very successful clinic for pre-school children was held at the Shady Cove schoolhouse May 22 with Mrs. Ola Houston chairman assisted by other la dies of the community. Thirty four children were examined by Dr. Merkel, county health offic er and nurses from the county health department and immuni zation against various diseases was given. Eighth grade graduation exer cises were held at the Shady Cove school May 22 for 14 stu dents. Glenn Hale, superintend ent of Eagle Point schools was guest speaker. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Myers of Shady Cove returned recently from a business trip to L.aueview and northern California. Mrs. Rosa Martin of Cottage Grove spent several days recent ly visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Collins and family of Shady Cove. Mrs. Martin is an old friend of the family. Work started May 21 on the VFW hall in Shady Cove with gravel being hauled and spread as a cushion for the concrete floor. Members of Steelhead Post No. 6881 who helped with the work were Russell Mee, Johnny Walker, Kenneth Oliver and Dan Krotz. Carl Dawson helped haul wih his truck and Lynn Saunders also assisted. Bonds for financing the hall are now being sold. Steelhead Post will hold a box social June 16 at 7 p.m. at Casey State park. The public is invited. Ladies and girls attending are asKecl to bring boxes with lunch for two. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice u Brien of Centerville, Cal., have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cook of Shady Cove. On leav ing here they went on to visit Crater Lake and Klamath Falls. Mr. O'Brien is superintendent of the Booth Canning company in Centerville. Mrs. Gerald Owen of Shady Cove attended the Oregon branch meeting of the National Chinchilla Breders of America held in Portland on May 19. Mrs. Helen Anderson of shady Cove Is now operating the Shady Cove Beauty Shop in the new Mountain View cafe building in Shady Cove. Mrs. Anderson has worked as a beauty operator in Klamath Falls, Medford and was in Instructor at the Medford Beauty School. Regular meeting of Steelhead Post V.F.W. and Ladies Auxili ary will be held Friday, June 2, at R p.m. at Rogue River Lodge. Mrs. Van Dyke was installing officer at the installation of Shady Cove P.T.A. May 19 at the schoolhouse. New officers are Mrs. Cecil Kee, president; Mrs. Jerry Hicks, vice-president: Mrs. Ralph Lane, secretary and Mrs. Jack Schauble, treasurer. Graduating from Eagle Point high school May 24 were a num ber of Shady Cove residents, among thorn Dan Krotz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Krotz, Larry Kee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kee, Carolyn Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Johnson of Trail, Kay Gran tham, of Shady Cove, Everett Hanna, son of Mrs. Arthur Engel and Esther Doherty, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Doherty of the Assembly of God Church of Shady Cove. The last of a srls of classes in square dnncing sponsored by the Upper Rogue Extension Unit for members and their families will be hrld at Sunsrt-on-the-Rogue on Monday evening. May 29. Oklahoma Picnic The Okla homa picnic committee met last week at the home of Mrs. Roy Gish in Central Point, setting Sunday, July 9, as the date for this year's Oklahoma picnic. The affair will be held in Tou- Velle state nark and persons wishing to furnish music for the program are asked to contact Mrs. Gish. e Townsend Delegates Mrs. Charles Boussum, president of Medford Townsend club No. 1, and Fred Barker, president of club wo. 4, nave been elected delegates to the national con vention of Townsend clubs to be held in Denver May 29 to June 2. During the week, word was received by the Anhorns of the passing of John Anhorn Sr. V Receives Deqree Charles Warren Kirkpatrick. a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Kirkpatrick, 713 East Jackson boulevard, was granted a degree of bachelor of divinity from Hartford Theologi cal seminary, Hartford. Conn., at graduation exercises of the Hart ford Seminary foundation, May 17. The Rev. Mr. Kirkpatrick will continue to serve as mini ster of the Cummington and West Cummington, Mass., Cong regational churches, which he has served while completing his studies at the seminary. The seminary is a university of re ligion where students, already college graduates, prepare for professional leadership in Chris tian work. YPF will meet at 6;30 p.m. to day at the church for a brief business session. Roller skat ing at the armory will follow. e Purchase Inn Mr. and Mrs. John J. Hill, recently of Coos Bay, have purchased the Burger inn on Pine street in Central Point. The business was former ly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Hom er Brown, who have operated the establishment since its open ing. e e Deputy Commissioner Here Ed Campbell, Portland, deputy real estate commissioner for the state, was a southern Oregon vis itor this week-end. He was here to conduct investigations for his office, according to Carl Teng- waid, Mediord, a member of the state real estate board. e e Visiting Mrs. Ruth Jolly, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Powell, Central Point, arrived recently from Fairbanks, Alas ka, to spend the summer with her parents. Jolly will remain in Fairbanks where he is employed as a carpenter. He plans to join Mrs. Jolly here later in the season. e e Social Night Knights of Py thias will hold a regular social night Monday at 7 p.m. in the Pythian building on North Grape street. A pot luck dinner will be served. The affair is for Knights of Pythias, Pythian sisters, their families and Invited guests. Card games will b e played. Those attending are asked to take a covered dish. To Build The largest of three building permits issued at the city building inspector's office Friday and Saturday was one for $6,000 issued to E. L. Manning who will build a new residence at 1019 West Fourth street. B L. Sanderson will spend $5,000 to build a home at 940 South Grape street, and Phil Stem bridge was granted a permit to build a $1,000 garage at 1019 West Main street. I ' Death L a r n e d Word has i been received here of the death of Mrs. Nettie Green in Berke ley, Cal. Mrs. Green is a former ! resident of Table Kock and i-en- tral Point. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Caleb Chinn, Sacramento; Mrs. Thom as White, Honolulu; Mrs. John Ermerson, San Francisco and Mrs. Stuart Schlosser, Portland. Mrs. Green was a dressmaker in fpnlrnl Point and her rialichters attended Central Point schools. I At Hospital Rollte Newbold, 404 worth Riverside avenue, is confined to Community hospital where he underwent surgery last week. His condition was report ed satisfactory. e Jacksonville Lodge Warren Lodge No. 10, A.F.&A.M., Jack sonville, will meet Tuesday night instead of Wednesday as previously announced, according to H. Halversen, worshipful master. e Son Born Word has been re ceived hers of the birth of a son May 26 to Mr. and Mrs. Terry B. Elder, Albany. Mrs. Elder is the former Mildred McKenzie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Thompson is convalescing from major surgery which he underwent recently. To Klamath Falls Mr. and Mrs. Earl Knight, 522 King street, left last evening for Klamath Falls to spend the week-end visiting Knight's moth er, Mrs. L. Lewis Larson and his brother, George Knight. MARY WELCH Mrs. Mary Welch, widow of Samuel S. Welch, former resi dents of Medford, passed away in Watsonville, Cal., on Friday. The remains will be returned to Medford for services and in terment. Arrangements are in care of Conger-Morris funeral home. WALTER W. MARSHALL Services for Walter Wright Marshall, 58, who passed away Friday, will be held in Conger Morris chapel Monday at 2:30 p.m., with Central Point Lodge No. 135, A. F. & A. M., of which he was a member, officiating. Committal services will be in Brownsboro cemetery. Mr. Marshall was born in Crawford county. Ark., Feb. 5, 1892. On May 21, 1913, at Pull man, Wash., he was united in marriage to Grace E. Livings ton, who survives. He had lived at Brownsboro for 31 years. Surviving, besides his widow, are three sons, Lester i., Brownsboro; Glen W., Eugene; and Sgt. William R., Fort Ord, Cal.; and eight grandchildren. Court Records Justice Court Ralph J.
