Boys placing first, second and third in the district meet 10 days a co at Medford in which the Black Tornado placed eight in the state championship meet, will take part this week Satur day. In addition to Medford, Klamath Falls, Ashland and Grants Pass will enter. Roger Hobbs in the mile, Lou Bittle in the 440 and 880 relay and Jack Morris in the low hurdles and 880 relay. , Also Bill Buckingham In the 100, 220 and 880 relay, warren Wendt in the pole vault. Hal TTaiilknpr in the low hurdles, D. C. Mills in the javelin, Don Vincent in the javelin and Bill Pruitt in the 880 yard relay. Of these 11 eligible for the intpr.riislricl meet Saturday. J. and F. Morris, Bittle, Bucking ham, Wendt, Mills and mint took honors in the state track meet last week-end at Corvallis. Portland state meet point- makers will include boys from all high schools in that city. Coach Bob Newland of the local squad said in reminding valley sports fans of the event. Portland Schools Tons Last year the Portland district schools edged tne souinern -ire-ton combined aggregation and in 1048 those from northern Ore gon also took honors. Prospects this year look good for a southern Oregon victory with Medford probably once again to be counted on to do much of the point-making. In past years Portland schools have combined to win district honors, but Medford has rung up the most points per school. The inter-district meet bring Ine toaether some of the top high school talent in Oregon will start at 8 p.m. Spectators will be required to enter through the new or east grandstand entrances and to sit In that area so the new stand may be used by the youths taking part. 4 Yanks Win British Golf St. Andrews. The Pointers finished the season With four victories. The Grizzlies were not to be denied a last minute rally when they pushed over four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to give Coach Clarence Mellbye of Central Point and his boys a bad case of jitters. pointers continue improve John Bigham and Don John son hurled for the Pointers in allowing eight hits which was all Fowler and Elliot gave up for Ashland also. The Pointers con tinued to show much improve ment over early season games with base hits and some heady baserunning counting for them. Meadows and Hedgpath each with two hits in three trips and Monroe and Bigham each with a double paced the Pointers in hit ting. One of Hedgepath's blows was a two-bagger. Tenney. Seals Knock Over Seattle; Beavers Win San Francisco. May 24 If the Seattle Rainiers. who've been on the comeback trial the past three weeks, had any idea of converg ing on Seal stadium to skip easily through another winning series, they certainly will have a different notion after last night. San Francisco blasted Seattle 10 to 3 last night to throw the Suds back into the Pacific Coast league baseball cellar. Hurler Cliff Melton, when he is hot, is very warm indeed. He outlasted three Seattle hurlers to go all the way for the Seals and gave up only seven hits. Portland Winner 12-7 At Los Angeles, Portland's heavy-handed Joe Brovia con nected for two home runs to lift his season total to 13. The Beav ers rammed across seven runs in the eighth inning and wiped out a one-run Angel lead. Portland hit succesfully live times in that frame, including a three-run circuit by Brovia and a trplc by Luis Marquez. Los Angeles used six hurlers, including their ace Cal McLish, in an attempt to halt the Port land attack. Tennis Players Meet Tonight, Senior High Local tennis players will meet at the senior high school courts at 5:30 p.m. today to paint lines on the surfaces that recently were bettered by the school de partment. The paint will be dry in time to use the courts Thurs day night, those in charge re ported. Sunday the city tennis team of Medford will play a team match with Ashland's cily team on the local senior high courts starting about 10 a.m. These will be open to the public without cost, offi cers said. Grade School Baseball Scheduled on Thursday Grade school league baseball Thursday will find Washington playing at Lincoln and Roosevelt at Jackson with "play ball" slated for 4:15 p.m. at both schools. Washington assured itself of the 1950 grade school champion ship Monday afternoon by de feating Jackson school. If the Washingtnnians lose the rest of their games they still will win. Joe Chez Nominated For All-CIBA Squad Joe Chez, who has a 7 wins and no loss record for Stanford university and now probably will pitch at least one game in the Pacific Coast conference cham pionship playoffs at Seattle this next week-end. has been nomi nated on the all-ClBA baseball squad. 1 he former Medford high all- around athlete was named by the San Francisco Examiner sports department. A single game is slated Saturday and on Sunday there will be a doubleheader at 6:30. Eugene. Squeeze Plays Work Player Manager Tommy Nel son of the Rogues crossed up the opposition as he has several times this season by calling for squeeze plays, three times last night. All three succeeded with two coming in the fourth and the other in the seventh. It was Herrmann's fifth Far West league victory in 1950 and he received some aid afield from his teammates when the Rogues pulled off two doubleplays, their fourth and fifth of the series played at Eugene's park. In the fourth for Medford, Jack Cooney walked, went to third on John Polovich's single an oil drum in his garage for 23 gallons. In the eighth for the Rogues, Guglielmo scratched a single to the infield and scored when the Larks' left fielder erred on Bill Adams' ground ball. Stuart Draws Walk Russ Stuart walked for the Medford club in the ninth, ad vanced to second on a sacrifice, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild throw to third base by the catcher. Herrmann struck out two and gave up six walks while Popo vich paced the Rogues' hitting with three singles in five trips.
