Miss Parker Serves As Air Stewardess; Mother Makes Trip Miss Natalie "Pehny" Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ceroid J. Parker, 610 South Central avenue, was recently employed as a Pan American World Air ways stewardess. Miss Parker attended Reed college, Portland, and took nurse's training at Johns Hopkins hospital in Bal timore. Md. Sho i a graduate of Medford hiijh school. In her new position. Miss Par ker flies the Arctic circle when assigned to flights between Se attle and Fairbanks or Nome, Alaska, Matron Entertains Officials of Court Mrs. L. G. Frink, royal matron of Roxy Ann court, Order of the Amaranth, entertained officers of her court at her home on Thomas road Tuesday evening. Mrs. Frink and Edward C. Root entertained with piano and violin numbers and the group enjoyed singing. Refreshments were served. Calif. tf j Special Meeting Held By Evans Valley PTA; Committees Announced I Evans Valley A special meeting of the Evans Valley Parent-Teacher association was called May 18 to discuss pur chase of caps and capes for the school orchestra. It was decided to make the capes and caps. . The school colors, royal blue and white, will be used. The members making the new uni forms expect to have them com ! pleted for graduation exercises to be held June 1. Mrs. Harold Wood, newly in stalled president, announced her list of chairmen. Medford Student Given Year Book Certificate Eugene Miss Barbara Earl, daughter of Mrs. Katherine L. Earl. 309 North Columbus street, Medford. recently received a certificate of achievement for meritorious service to the 1950 Oregana. based on abilitv. de pendability, and devotion of duty. The Oregana is the year book published by the students at the University of Oregon. Miss Earl, an assistant editor, receive dan editorial staff certi ficate. V7 EaSt Main St- O jUClH J Medford, Oregon Lady Elks Luncheon Tuesday Afternoon Attracts 200 Guests More than 200 Lady Elks of Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass attended the luncheon and card party which the Medford group gave Tuesday in the party lounge of the Medford temple. Guests from Grants Pass numbered about 50, and approximately 60 came from Ashland. Colorful garden blossoms dec orated the luncheon tables, and each woman received a red rosebud as a favor. Entertainment for the lunch eon was provided by the girls' sextet of senior high school, Misses Sue Hinkle. Jane Durno, Maxine Myers. Donna Mack, Florence Lyons and Virginia Richmond, directed by Miss Lor raine Vcidt. Mrs. Orrin L. Brown, chair man of Medford Lady Elks and party chairman, welcomed the guests and responses were made by Mrs. V. A. Sprinkle, chair man of the Grapts Pass group, and Mrs. Delbert Jones, chair man of the Ashland unit. ' Many prizes were given for bridge, canasta and pinochle, which followed luncheon. Prize winners from Ashland were Mesdnmes Mabel Penland. Mary Mayficid. Lorraine Zittorcob. Ray Sharp, Harry G. Travis, Foss G. Kramer, Rose Potter, Ray Stringer, Don Whitney and H. E. Keller. Grants Pass prize winners were Mrs. Naomi Ped lev, Mrs. Gladvs Hornadav and Mrs. M. A. Frank and Mrs. R. H. White of Reno, New, also receiv ed a prize. Medford women receiving were Mesdames S. M. Purcell. Corey, J. L. Davidson, Cliff Pil and, John Henson. Deane Lam bert. Bert Riebe, John H. Tizek ker. George Howard. Richard E. Mann, Edward J. Briggs and GeorRe Weir. Many smart apearing summer suits and dresses were seen in the throngs of Medford women and their guests. Mrs. Sprinkle wore a brown and white print with brown straw hat and a cor sage of lavender carnations pre sented by the Medford hostesses. Mrs. Jones wore a grey suit with white hat, and a carnation cor sage, i Mrs. Brown, Medford chair man, wore a bouquet of deep red carnations on her white suit, and Mrs. Arthur D. Hess, her co-chairman, wore a navy blue ensemble with carnation corsage. The chairman of the decora tion committee, Mrs. L. G. Miles, wore a modish suit of cocoa brown and the bit of lace at the neck matched that which edged her brown straw hat. Mrs. Miles, whose costumes must be "king size," designs and makes many of her own clothes. Mrs. Parker left last evening by United Airlines for Wichita, Kans., where she will visit rela tives of both her and Mr. Parker. It is the first time that Mrs Parker has visited there since she and Mr. Parker moved from Wichita 30 years ago. She ex pects to be gone about a month. Secretaries Hold Dinner Meeting; Members Added First regular meeting of Rogue River chapter of National Secretaries association was held Thursday evening in the mezza nine room of the Medford hotel. It was a dinner meeting. Mrs. Marian Langley, from the office of William McAllister, and Mrs. Vivian Howard, How ard Stenographic services, were initiated into the chapter as charter members. Mrs. Mary Lovejoy was ap pointed editor of the chapter's bulletin, to be known as "Rif fle Ramblings." Sunday, May 21, 1950 Miss Natalie Parker DUV Past Presidents Entertained at Picnic A group of past presidents of Daughters of Union Veterans were entertained at a barbecue picnic May 12 in Grants Pass by Miss Leonie Hull. Miss Hull is a past president of the group and former Medford resident now living in Grants Pass. The picnic was held in the yard of the home of Miss Hull's nephew, Virgil Hull. The hostess was .assisted by her niece. Mrs. Thelma Saucr. A business meeting was held, led by M r s. A. L. Buchanan. Others attending were Mrs. J. B Carr. Mrs. Walter Kindred, Mrs. Francis Brisbine. and Mrs. Roy Guver. He is being sponsored here by the Medford League of Wom en Voters and Rogue Valley Country club. 1 Saturday afternoon the expert will lecture on canasta at the country club, beginning at 2 p. m. 1 and reservations are to be made jy calling the club . He will lecture on bridge Sat urday evening under the spon-j sorship of the league. The lec-' tore is set for 8 p. m. and will be in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel. Mr. Jacoby, whose name Is known to almost every card play er in America, began playing cards at the age of nine and has ; mastered every card game ever , written or conceived. He is the author of seven books on cards and is currently engaged in writ lg the eighth.
