RUN FOR CONGRESS Harris Ellsworth, at left above, Rose burg, the present congressman from the fourth Oregon district, had no opposition for the republican nomination for re-election. The democratic primary election, however, was a stiff battle all the way between Walter Swanson, Springfield merchant, and David Shaw, Gold Beach attorney and former government employee. Re turns available late Saturday gave Shaw a lead of slightly more than 1,500. He had overcome an early lead by Swanson, and his advantage had been increasing slowly. His picture is printed above, rignt, as tne presumaoie winner. , Monday Designated as National Maritime Day Salem, Ore., May 20 (U.R) Gov. Douglas McKay today des ignated Monday as National Maritime day in Oregon and ob served this state has played a part in building the United States into the world's leading maritime power. He also noted that water shipping has been in strumental in Oregon's growth and progress. "Lew" Graves, Eagle Point, in the race for republican nom ination for county commissioner. Copco Earnings Up For 12-Month Period The California Oregon Power company last week reported a net income of $2,110,047 for the 12 months ending April 30, 1950. This compares to $2,006,466 for the same period the year previ ous, an increase of 2.15 per cent. Net income was equivalent to 5.09 times preferred stock divi dend requirements and, after de duction for such dividends, was eaulvalent to S2.12 per share on common stock. Net. income for this period was 20.59 per cent of gross operating revenues. Net income for the month of April amounted to $194,996 com pared with $144,695 for April, 1949, an increase oi J4.76 per cent. Key West, Fla.
