Horses & Women
"For a woman to be truly
fascinating she should have a
mouth that is a little larger than
is quite pronortionate to the
other features. Women with this
type of mouth are usually genial,
tolerant, lovable and human and
have a great appeal to men."
That's what Harry Thurston
Peck said in a discussion of the
female sex titled, "The Woman
of Fascination." By a "woman
of fascination," Mr. Peck meant
the type that drives men wild
such as Mme. Du Barry, Mme.
Pompadour, Nell Gwynne, Gaby
Deslys and the lady described
in Mr. Kipling's poem, "The
Vampire."

Asking
Queries from clients. Q Just
saw Marlene Dietrich in her lat
est film. I agree she is the
world s most glamorous grand
mother. How long has she been
married? A. Marlene has been
married just about 27 years. I
have also been asked by another
client to name Miss Dietrich's
leg measurements. They are 8Vi
inches at the ankle, 12Vi at the
calf, 19V4 at the thigh. Q. See
that a Florida outfit' plana to
stage ostrich races with pari
mutuel wagering. Is an ostrich a
faster runner than a horse?
What can an ostrich do six fur
longs in? A. An ostrich without
a rider can do six furlongs in
about 52 seconds. That makes it
faster than a racehorse which
has to carry a rider in a race.
However, I don't know how fast
an ostrich can run when carrying
a jockey ana weight.
Widows
When a woman wears her wed
ding ring on the third finger of
her right hand it means she is a
widow. That's what a New York
er says. I never saw a woman
wearing her wedding ring that
way. Still it might be a good idea
for young widows. It would in
dicate they were in circulation
again and might attract the te
tention of some matrimonially
inclined men who would seek
Introductions.
Mules & Men
Note an alleged expert on
the subject of how to acquire a
high grade husband says, "the
clinging vine technique" is no
longer effective. According to
our Mules & Men experts she is
very wrong. They say the
"clinging vine technique" has
been clicking with the male sex
for over 3.000 years and is still
going strong. It all depends on
how it is handled. That is, it must
now be utilized in the modern
manner rather than in mid-Victorian
way.
Our M & M experts also say
the "clinging vine technique"
should be continued after mar
riage. If not, the wife is very
likely to find that she has be
come "the sturdy oak" of the
family and the husband the
clinging vine. More on this vital
ly important matter anon.

NLRB Hearing Due
On Coos Bay Charges
Portland, Ore., May 18 (U.PJ
A National Labor Relations
Board hearing will be held in
Coos Bay on an unfair labor
charge filed jointly by the CIO
International Woodworkers of
America and the AFL Lumber &
Sawmill Workers.
The two unions charged that
the Irwin-Lyons Lumber Co.,
Coos Bay, discriminated against
them on the matter of vacations
as a result of CIO picketing of.
the lumber vessel rtolanao in
1948.
CIO pickets attempted to en
force a demand that Irwin-Lyons
use CIO crewmen instead of AFL
sailors on the Rolando. The AFL
lumber workers respected the
picket line.
The accusing unions contend
ed that the company reduced va
vations for men who stayed off
the job during picketing.
R. B. Trunks, NLRB examiner,
will conduct the hearing at Coos
Bay city hall beginning June 13.

Hoover Campaign
Results in Lawsuit
Portland, Ore., May 18 (U.R)
A $50,000 lawsuit was on file
here today against J. Showalter
"Bud" Lynch for what the plain-'
tiff, Orville K. Buckner, said de
veloped from a fistic argument
over campaign strategy regard
ing Dave Hoover-for-Senator.
Buckner, an executive of the
Electric Steel Foundry, charged
that his nose was broken when
Lynch "assaulted, beat and bat
tered" him in a downtown Port
land restaurant May 1.
He complained that Lynch
punched him in the nose during
a heated argument over cam
paign strategy in the Hoover
campaign. Lynch is an advertis
ing man in charge of Hoover
campaign advertising.
Buckner asks S35.000 damages
for "extreme embarrassment and
humiliation" and injuries. In ad
dition, he asks $15,000 special
damages to cover doctor bills and
punitive damages against Lynch.
Lynch had no comment to
make until he saw his lawyer,
but he did remark:
