TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) Gold Hill Lady Lions Plan Annual Election; New Member Attends Gold Hill Nomination of of- , ficer was held at the mooting of Gold Hill Lady Lions May 9. Names of nominees are Mrs. William Rockford and Mrs. A. A. Walker, president; Mrs. Ralph Bell and Mrs. John Cogswell, vice-president; Mrs. J. L. Graf- ' f is, secretary - treasurer; Mrs. George Brownell and Mrs. John Stieber, Lion Trainer. The elec tion will he May 23 and the ' meeting will follow dinner at the Dardanelles at 7 p.m. ' Mrs. George Hollenbeck, a new member, was welcomed to the meeting. She and Mrs. George Brownell were appointed to take flowers to Camp White i on Wednesday, May 17. It was reported at the meeting that Norman Fclder had left Camp White and had gone to ' Honolulu, where he is with the USO. He was the protege of the Lady Lions. '' Delegates lo the slate conven tion, which will be in Medford ; June 11-12-13, will be Mrs. Wil liam Rockford and Mrs. J. L. Graffis. Central Point Group Holds Recent Meeting Central Point Member of Mr. Pitt Rebekah Past Noble Grands' club in Central Point met at the home of Mrs. Marshall Weidman recently. Mrs. Jones from California and Mrs. Anderson were welcomed as visitors, and both spoke. An other visitor was Mrs. Velma Kime. Mrs. Bella Pankcy reported that she called on Mrs. Frank Tompkins in the IOOF home dur ing her recent trip to Portland. Mrs. Tompkins showed her through the home and then the two, with Mrs. Pankey's brother, drove to Beaverton to visit Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hedgepeth. The club members voted to buy. a fluorescent light for the kitchen of the IOOF hall. Meetings Announced At Lone Pine School; To Install Officers Lone Pine Meetings are Dlanned at the Lone Pine school Thursday night and Friday after noon. The film, "Human Growth" will be shown at the Lone Pine school Thursday, May 18 at 8 p.m. Parents of Lone Pine school children are invited to attend and any interested adult will be welcome, those in charge state. Attending from here will be the club president, Mrs. Bertha M. Haskins, the stale music and arts chairman, Miss Laura York, and six delegates, Mrs. Olivia Claypool, Mrs. Harriet Watson. Mrs. Florence Lance, Mrs. Ethel Sehultz, Miss Louise Drew and Miss Lucille Lenox. Miss Drew has been placed on the rules committee. Others planning to attend are Mrs. Bertha McKinney, Mrs. Alice Willitts of Ashland and Mrs. Eva Segessenman, Shady Cove. Since Mav 19 is primary elec tion day, Mrs. Haskins urges all delegates and otner memDers 10 vote before they leave their home precincts. Several are using absentee ballots, it is stated. Dr. K. Frances Scott, presi dent of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women, will attend the conven tion. II Extension Unit Hears Next Year Outlined; Demonstration Planned Gold Hill At the last meet ing of the Gold Hill Extension unit, held at the home of Mrs. Ferd Jones, Mrs. Arthur Straus gave a detailed report of the projects for the coming year. They will be clothing, with tail oring, cleaning and mending; food buying, types of meals, oven meals; simple carpentry, includ ing remodeling a family can do and special meetings for slipcov er workshop, safety and fire pre vention and a special meeting for mothers with young children tor making and remodeling chil dren's clothing. Special classes in metalcraft will be held if an instructor can be found. A freezing demonstration will be held at the school cafeteria Wednesday, June 14, at 1:30 p.m. Anyone interested in the com munity is welcome to attend the meeting. Officers were installed with a brief ceremony conducted by Miss Eula Wintermote. Corsages, made by Mrs. George Dorman, were presented to the new offi cers, Mrs. Edward Knapp, presi dent, Mrs. C. W. Smith, vice president, Mrs. Paul Holderness, secretary-treasurer. The Oregon "Homcmakers Creed" was given by all present. Mrs. Charles H. Taylor, sister of Mrs. Straus, was a guest, as were W. J. Armstrong and Mrs. C. W. Smith. Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Smith joined the unit for the coming year. Following luncheon Mrs. Slraus was presented with gifts in an informal shower from the ladies of the unit. Miss Wintermote gave an in structive talk and illustrations of lighting, showing various types of bulbs and globes. . The club planned a picnic to be held at the home of Mrs. Ed ward Knapp Friday, May 26. Members are asked to be there by 10 a.m. and textile painting will be demonstrated. They may pay a small fee to use supplies or bring their own paints and brushes. Textile stencil brushes or freehand painting brushes may be used. Plan CarcfParty For Rogue River Rogue River A card party will be held by the home eco nomics committee of Live Oak Grange in Rogue River Satur day, May 20th. Everyone is invit ed to attend, Pinochel, canasta and cribbage will be played and the charge will include refresh ments. Prizes will be given for high scores. These card parties have prov en very popular and will be con tinued at two-week intervals un til further notice. Mrs. Carolyn Russell Is Meeting Hostess Mrs. Carolyn Russell, 316 South Orange street, was hostess for the last meeting of the FL club, and events for the coming month were discussed. Phoenix Homemakers Plan Supper Friday , Phoenix Homemakers, class of Phoenix Presbyterian church will meet Friday, May 19, at the church for a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. This meeting was formerly an nounced as a wiener roast to be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kesler, but a change of plans was found necessary. Dessert for the meeting Fri day night will be provided by the hostesses, Mesdames J. C. Kesler and Donald Korth. Wayne Morse has "the soundest approach to the problem of communism it has been my privilege to hear" Central Point Class To Give Play Friday As Year-End Event Central Point Central Point high school will wind up its dra matic season Friday, May 19, when the junior class will pre sent its annual play, "The Whole Town's Talking." Curtain time is 8 p.m. The cast includes John Big ham, John Hcberling, Stuart Richards, Bert Simmons, Ken Bartley, Jean Hamilton, Mary Johnson, Lucile Harnish, Laural Jewett, Barbara Graves, Pat Flaherty, Joanne Carrigan, Bev erly Moody, Gaylee Ingle and Susan Culbertson. The play is under the direction of Mrs. Fran ces Ruck. During the intermission, the high school orchestra, under the direction of Harry Meyers, will present several numbers. Tickets are now on sale at Set ness' Variety store, Central Point. Birthday Parties Held In Eagle Point Homes Eagle Point Recent events in Eagle Point included two birth day parties. A birthday party honoring Mrs. Mabel Tibbitt was given at her home. The evening was spent square dancing, with mu sic furnished by Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Noble of the Nichols Branch district. Mrs. Jones was presented a birthday cake, made by Mrs. Jones, and many gifts. Another recent party was that given by Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Noble for their daughter, Laura May. Choir to Present Spring Concert In Ashland School Ashland Southern Oregon College choir will present its spring concert Tuesday, May 23 at 8 p.m. in Lincoln school au ditorium in Ashland, The choir, made up of 71 voices, will sing a varied pro gram of Negro spirituals, sacred and secular numbers. Also appearing will be the mixed octet, the girls' sextet and the men's quartet. The choir recently has pre sented its program at Ashland high school. Rogue River high school, Roseburg high school and the veterans' hospital at Roseburg. The public is cordially invit ed to attend, and no admission will be charged.
