Cal.. made an outstanding record win ning the rifle tournament held here yesterday by the Medford Rifle club when he scored 1196 points out of a possible 1200. Hendricks, who was also win ner in the tournament held here last year, received the Medford Rifle club trophy and the Les Taylor Dodge and ' Plymouth trophy for the any sight aggregate. Gerald Jones. Klamath rails. placed second with 1192 and Paul Dodge. Yreka, Cal., was third with 1189. The Studs punched over runs in all but three stanzas, the whole team batting once around in the first, second, third and eighth innings. Seven runs crossed in the third. Left Fielder Norm Lucich was the big gun for Central Point with five hits in six times up, including a double and a one-run triple. He batted in five runs. Clarence Mellbye, right fielder and pitcher, hit four for five and drove in three count ers. Howard McDonald tripled in two runs in the first inning. Paul Gehrman gave up two hits in six innings on the mound for the Studs. Mellbye hurled hitlcss ball the rest of the way. CHICO WINS CHAMPIONSHIP Chico, Cal., May 15 Chico State collece with 14 wins and two losses in conference compe tition won the Far Western con ference baseball championship lor the third consecutive time, Southern Oregon college was tutu with one win and seven losses. PISTOL SHOOTS The pistol division of the Med ford Rifle club has started hold ing outdoor shooting practice at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday, club members said. Twelve members attended last week. Millers Defeat Cave Junction Central Point, May 15 The Central Point Millers baseball team won their Rogue Valley league opener yesterday at Cen tral Point by defeating Cave Junction 10 to 7 behind the 11 hit pitching of Don Sanford. Sanford struck out seven and walked none. Big sticks in the hitting de partment for the Millers were Kincade with three hits in five trips to the plate and Strickland, who got two for three. Anhorn had the unusual distinction of drawing a walk five times for the Millers. Central Point came from be hind with three runs in the sev enth inning and four in the eighth after trailing 7 to 3 at the end of six frames. PACIFIC DEFEATED Forest Grove, Ore., May 15 (U.R) College of Idaho handed Pacific university a twin North west conference baseball defeat Saturday, winning 3 to 2 and 9 to 6. 1 -BFTI'W Car Makes 'Drive-In' Of Salem Restaurant Salem, Ore., May 15 (U.R) The Spa cafe on State street in downtown Salem became an im promptu "drive-in" late Sunday, police reported, when a car driven by William Gillings, 79, of Salem, nosed into the front door. Police said Gillings was back ing away from a parking spot in front of the restaurant. Traffic forced him back toward the curb, knocked over a parking meter and nudged the front of the cafe.
