COLD ALL Not just because them as has cm wears em but because she really needs the warmth Mrs. Coolbody wears her minks at the bridge par ty even when most of the other ladies suf fer from the excessive heat. There are a great many Coolbody's in North Amer ica. They are largely respon- s I b 1 e for the Ot. Brady most wide spread phobia in the country cryophobia, morbid fear of cold or draft. On the other hand, thank goodness, there are a lot of Warmbody's too, enough of them to restrain the Coolbody's from keeping everybody burned up. The plausible explanation for this remarkable difference in personable sensibility to slight variations in the air or room temperature is that the Warm- body's have rich blood and the Coolbody's have "thin" blood or anemia. Occasionally this may be true, but nine times out of ten it is a false assumption. - In the majority of instances the reason why Mrs. Coolbody likes to wear her furs or other extra wraps in an environment that is probably warm enough or too warm for Mrs. warmBocty in the lightest clothing she can wear is that Mrs. Coolbody's basal metabolism is low, minus. below par. In other words the rate of combustion, the oxida tion process, the vital fire whicli constitutes life is slower in her body than it is in the healthy. normal or average body. It is not a desirable state for Mrs. Coolbody to be in, because aside from the bad living habits it promotes such as overdress ing, overheating the home or working place and avoiding open air lite minus meiaooiism makes her more susceptible to alcohol and drugs wnicn "stimti' late'' or give a temporary sense of warmth. Indeed the increasing use of private cars, taxis and other means of transportation for dis tances which people formerly walked, contributes to the cock tail evil, because the sense of warmth and "stimulation" the individual gets from a cocktail or two makes him or her forget that a mile or two of oxygen on the hoof increases absorption of oxygen and speeds up a slow metabolism ana Brings a real and lasting body warmth. Next to daily exercise walk ing is the best all-around exer cise any one can take for health's sake what Mrs. Coot end with Mrs. Rose's grand mother, Mrs. Ernest Smith. Tom Moore, Los Angeles, Cal., was in Butte Falls last week to attend the funeral of her uncle, Loren Moore. American Fliers On Way to States Washington, May 1 2 U.P.) Two American naval Iliers who had been missing in communist China for 19 months, are sailing to freedom aboard the British steamer Hunan. The steamer has left Tsingtao. The state department reported today that the skipper of the Hu nan radioed Hong Kong head quarters that the two Americans were aboard. They are Elmer C. Bender of Cincinnati and Chicago and Wil liam C. Smith of Long Beach, Cal. The communist radio at Peip ing had announced the commu nuists had freed the two fliers but the Hunan's report was the first non-communist confirma tion Smith and Bender disappeared Oct. 10. 1948, when their small navy plane was forced down in a communist area. The plane took otf irom isingtao, where the U. s. then had a navy base under an agreement with nationalist China. Baruch Blisters Fair Deal Program New York, May 12 (U.R) Elder Statesman Bernard Ba ruch said today that the Truman administration's deficit spending ultimately will make the peo ple slaves of the government and wreck the country. In a blistering speech on the ."fair deal" program, he said too much government is the "great est threat" in existence to Am erican freedom. Wherever communism has risen to power the value of money was wrecked first, to keep the people enslaved through perpetual inflation, he said. "Nothing quite so bad has hap pened here yet," Baruch said. "If American fiscal policy be comes a perpetual inflation ma chine as "deficit financing" would make it the result must be to enslave us to the govern ment." womos lADGlST 10c THE TIME body generally lacks, to improve her metabolism ana enliven ner vital fire, is iodine. Here we ao again. Remember, please, I am not suggesting that anybody take iodine or iodide in medicinal dose. 1 refer only to the wee, wee bit of iodine or iodide which everybody, man, woman or child, should get in his or her dailv food but gen erally does not get because soil, water and food in most pans oi the country are deficient in iodine. In any case the iodine I rec ommend is only that quantity whirh one should get daily in drinking water and food. That's why I say if it does you no good it can do you no narm. So I invite all the Coolbody s to send me a stamped self-ad dressed envelope and ask for the pamphlet The lodin Hation wnicu will tell how to get yours.
