TGM MEDFOHD (OHEOON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, May 12. 1950 ROGUES SWEEP BRAVES SERIES; PLAY FOUR GAMES AT WILLOWS Marysville, Cal., May 12 (Special to Mail Tribune-Med-loid Bogues today were tied for first place in the Far West Baseball league through their third straiKht victory over Marysville and with the aid of Pittsbure who knocked over Iho Klamath Palls Genu. The Medford club tallied five runs in the first two innings last night to give it a 5 to 3 win over the Braves and thereby gain a clean sweep of the three-game stay in Marysville. Tied For First Spot Tnniuii tho ringues ODen four-game series at Willows with single games this evening and Saturday niaht and a double- header there on Sunday. The Rogues now are tied with Pitts burg for first place and Klamath Falls which had led the league is now second. Bolen doubled off the left field fence in the one-run third stanza for Medford and Cooney singled him home. Williams got a single in the fourth inning for Medford's only other hit in the baseball game. Pitcher Ed Thompson, who relieved starter Shotwell in the fourth, allowed three hits but a bit of wildness in the ninth in ning decided Player Manager Tommy Nelson of the Rogues to send in Keith Bowman to "put out the fire." Pittsburgers Topple Gems By United Press Righthander Joe Angel put to gether a beautiful three-hit shut out last night to help his Pitts burg teammates oust Klamath Falls from first place in the Far West league. The 2 to 0 victory moved the Diamonds into a two-way tie for first place with Medford s Rogues who dumped Marysville 5 to 3 to make a clean sweep of their three-game series. The Pittsburg - Klamath Falls contest was a pitcher's battle all the way between AnRel and Gon zales of the Gems. The Klamath Falls righthander allowed only five hits, but lost out when the Diamonds scored on a walk and two errors in the second inning. Rogues Announce Pair Signed by Local Club Signing of two more players fnr the Medford Rogues was an nounced late yesterday by Busi ness Manager Mel Carpenter. He did not indicate whether the new players had Joined the Far West league club on the road or not. The two listed were Out fielder Mike Popovich, a rookie, and Pitcher Hyatt, an experienc ed hurler, both from Idaho Falls the Pioneer league, another I farm of the New York Giants. May 12 (U.R) Anyone interested in buying a "hot" outfielder and taking a chance on delivery, contact Gen eral Manager George Weiss of the New York Yankees. The outfielder is Dick Wake field. Weiss is stuck with him. George tried to trade him to the Chicago White Sox. Wakefield wouldn't report. Yesterday base ball commissioner nixed the whole deal. So now the one-time bonus player is back with the Yankees but the irate Weiss swears. hell never play for this club again. Weiss announced that Wake field has been suspended for 30 dnys beginning April 29 for his failure to report to the wnite Sox. In Ann Arbor. Mich. Wakefield said he will appeal the suspension to Chandler. The Ynnks are not paying him for the 30 days and Besides, said wane field, thp suspension "makes me look bad. Mav 12 Jack sonville and Rogue River high school baseball teams wound up their 1950 seasons yesterday afternoon with the Redskins tak ing an 8 to 2 decision. The Jacksonville nine, coached by Don Kingsley, put on a six run first inning and tallied one each in the second and third stanzas for a comparatively easy victory. The Chieftains scored their two runs in the fourth. Feature of the game from a Rogue River standpoint was Glen Depuy's homerun to deep centerfield. Paul Hardy and Taylor formed the Jacksonville battery while Sauls and Frink handled these duties for Rogue River. BOWLING CITY LEAGUE Jim Morgan with 225 and F. Anderson who scored a 549 took high individual game and indi vidual series respectively last night when the City Bowling league held its weekly competi tion at the Medford Bowling lanes alleys. The Atlas had taken the first fall with the same hold after Yoakley had done almost as much wrestling as the principals in trying to separate them. After the match was over Wallick insisted on evening the score and gave the New York strong man some solid cuffs to the whiskers before the referee could break it up and usher the Atlas from the ring. Eddie Williams went into the ropes too high on an attempted sonnenburg butt and spun out onto the tloor where he so in jured his shoulder that he was unable to continue in his bout with Pete Belcastro, who was declared the winner by default. Williams had used sonnenburgs and a body press to take the first tall.
