The well-balanced Webfoots, with easy victories over Wash ington, Washington State and Idaho, will be heavily favored to trounce the Beavers. Although Grant Swan has some top-notch individuals and the Beavers have not been bested in the field events this spring, the Orange squad lacks the necessary depth to make the meet close. Some first class individual duels loom. In the mile, Oregon State's Dick Petterson will go against Oregon's sophomore ace, Jack Hutchins, and comparative times indicate a nip and tuck race. In the two-mile, Joe Fisher of the Beavers and Pete Mundle of the Ducks will fight it out with the result a tossup. Oregon will have a big edge in the other run ning events. Tennis players pointed out that the senior high courts are the only ones in anywhere near gocd condition to use and even one or two of them need repairs. Our understanding is that Hawthorne park was schedul ed to have tennis courts un der original plans but that money has not been available. Sites and makings of courts are also available at Washington and Koosevelt grade schools and at the junior high. However, only the senior high has courts with lighting for night play and which are in condition to use. This corner would like to echo what most every baseball fan he has talked with in recent days has said about the Rogues. This year's professional base ball club in Medford is the best we have seen in three years of pro ball. It has by far the best intield of the three seasons. about as good an outfield, the catching staff is better and only the pitching might be better before. Manager Tommy Nelson as sures us that by the time Au gust comes around. If not be fore, that Medford will have the "best" team In the league. This would indicate that ne expects more help from the Giants andor Seattle or from the local club's own scouting staff. We would say that the addi tion of one more outfielder and two good pitchers would moke the Rogues the best In the Fai West league this season. Make that outfielder a "long-ball" hit ter too.
