m cmem Miss Noreen Kelly Fellowship Day To Be Observed By Church Women , Plans have been completed for the annual May "Fellowship Day" of Medford Council of Church Women on Friday, May 5. It will be held as a tea this year in the First Presbyterian church. Eighth and Holly streets, beginning at 1:15 p.m. Mrs. Mabel Winston, dean of women of Southern Oregon col lege, will be the speaker. Her talk will be based on the theme "Our Daily Bread," stressing that a Christian economy needs to be the concern of church women everywhere. Mrs. William Myers, general chairman, has the following chairmen assisting her: Mrs. C. R. Adamson, program; Mrs. G. L. Floux, hospitality, and Mrs. Lio nel Rankin in charge of the food. All the cookies for the tea are being made by the ladies of Zion Lutheran church. On the program will be Mrs. Claude Cooper, Mrs. L. D. Pierce, Mrs. Meredtih Groves and Mrs. Charles Champlin. The Chnpel Trio of the First Methodist church, consisting of Misses Loyce Colton, Arlene Brood and Harriet Walker, will sing. Mrs. Henry Huenergardt will be at the organ. Assisting at the tea table will be Mrs. Vern Bailey, Mrs. V. A. Norris, Mrs. Hans Edwardsen, Mrs. A. C. Knudsen, Mrs. C. H. Herman, Mrs. R. K. Bailey, Mrs. E. J. Clark, Mrs. George Wendt, Mrs. Ray Pence, Mrs. Harry Mey ers, Mrs. Ben Meyer and Mrs. Ernest Jermark. Mrs. H. N. Her tager will be in charge of the guest book. All church women of the Rogue valley and their friends are invited to attend this fellow ship tea. Miss Kelly has had consider able dramatic experience, hav ing played in school productions while attending St. Mary's aca demy here, in civic theater plays and with the Shakespearean Fes tival in Ashland. At this event, the only time during the year when the various units meet together, the year is reviewed, elections are held and speakers from the state extension are presented. Theme of this year's festival was "The World is at Our mresnoia. With Mrs. C. C. Hoover, Lone Pine district, presiding, the ses sions opened at 10 a. m. with Mrs. A. T. Lathrop, Central Point, leading the flag salute and Mrs. Jack Caldwell, Eagle Point, leading group singing. Mrs. Paul Robertson of Howard district was pianist. Fourteen units of the 24 par ticipated in a style show, with members modeling dresses which they made during the year as a part of unit projects. Mrs. Bert land Stanley, Eagle Point, acted as commentator, Mrs. Lawrence Ousterhout of Eagle Point pro vided music and Murle Scales, extension service clothing spe cialist, also commented on the dresses. Mrs. Fred Svinth, Pros pect, was show chairman. Prospect, Reese Creek, Oak Grove and Lake Creek units presented skits and readings and members of the Central Point unit presented folk dances, wear ing costumes. The morning session closed with Mrs. E. E. Killpatrick of Klamath Falls and Mrs. Lathrop reviewing the meeting of the Country Women's council, held in Colorado Springs. During the review Mrs. Lathrop commented on the purposes of Associated Country Women of the World, saying that the organization made it possible for country women to have a voice in na tional and international affairs. It was explained that the "pen nies for friendship" contributed by the women help to support this international organization, which also strives to promote international friendship and un derstanding among women of the world. Following luncheon in the hall, Mrs. Henry Dooms of Ash land presided over the afternoon session and introduced Miss Edith Freeman, rural sociolo gist, who spoke on "Life's Give and Take." Elections closed the afternoon session with Mrs. Arthur Straus, Gold Hill; Mrs. Eugene Baalmun, Valleyview, and Mrs. Fred West, Applegate, elected to the county committee. They replace Mrs. Dooms, Mrs. Leiand Charley of Eagle Point and Mrs. Lathrop, who have each served the maxi mum four-year term. Hold-over members of the committee are Mrs. Hoover, Mrs. G. W. McBee, Mrs. Fred Svinth, Mrs. Ben Gardener. Members of the alumnae com mittee are rMs. Lee C. Port, Applegate, chairman; Mrs. Fred Miadlebusher, Prospect, - vice- chairman; Mrs. J. W. Thornton; secretary, and Mesdumes I. C, Williams, Lathrop, Efiie Birds- eye, W. H. Young, Zuba Walker, A. G. Campbell, Walter Hash, E. L. Olson, B. A. Clark, Ruby Downing, John ELson, Nora Straus, J. R. McCracken, O. C. Maust, Jennie Hutchinson. Ar nold Bohnert, O. C. Hamilton, L. E. Ager, A. E. Stevens, Jason Ottinger, Al Floyd and Fred Farlow and Miss Claire Hanley. Exhibits for the festival were displayed in the American Le gion hall across the street. Ap plegate, Central Point, Butte Falls, Griffin Creek and Lake Creek displayed lamp shades made by members; Evans Valley, Reese Creek and Central Point exhibited blouses; Prospect and Central Point had a display of gloves and Phoenix and Reese Creek each displayed herbs and seasonings. Mrs. Ben Gardener of Reese Creek was chairman of the ex hibits, in charge of the Eagle Point and Butte Falls units, Sams Valley unit members pro vided flowers for the stage and Valleyview members provided the table decorations, which were colorful May poles and spring blossoms. Mrs. McBee was chairman of registration, in charge of How ard, Phoenix and Talent units; Ashland unit provided the regis tration cards, Westside unit pro vided child care and Mrs. Char ley, supervising Applegate and Medford Barents units, iook charge of tickets. Officials To Speak For Voters League City officials will speak at the annual meeting of the Medford League of Women Voters Satur day, bringing the membership up-to-date on the needs and problems of Medford. The meet ing will be held at the Rogue Valley Country club following luncheon, set for 1 p.m. Speaking will be Mayor Dia mond Flynn, Robert A. Duff, water superintendent, and Leo Weidner, acting fire chief. Among other things they will explain the proposed bond issues which are to be on the ballot at the primary election. In addition, the league will elect officers and will hear an nual reports. IS0 Ashland College Plans Events For Mothers Week-End Ashland Invitations have been sent to 700 mothers of men and women students on the Southern Oregon college cam pus for events of the Mothers' Weekend, May 12-13. Commit tees of associated Women Stu dents, under the direction of Mrs. Mabel Winston, registrar and dean of women, are com pleting arrangements for the celebration. The program for this event, an annual occasion, will begin Friday with the visitation of classes and Lincoln Laboratory school at the college. Friday evening, mothers will see the dramatic production of "I Re member Mama," under the di rection of Angus Bowmer, fol lowed by a fireside social at Susanne Homes hall, girls' dorm. Saturday, Mrs. Buena Mock more of Corvalhs will be guest speaker at a women's honor as sembly. Then a luncheon for mothers, sons and daughters will be held at Susanne Homes hall. Saturday afternoon a style show and reception tea, coupled with the initiation of new Sigma Epsilon Pi members, will be held. About 150 mothers are expect ed to attend the event this year.
