U.R) A master time chart, dating back to 11 A.D., has been drawn up from an examination of old timbers found in ancient Arizona Indian settlements. Dr. Carl E. Guthe. director of the New York state museum, said the timbers also helped scientists to trace annual weath er conditions of the southwest back to the year 1260. The time chart, he explained, is of great importance in dating the age of ruins, old settlements and items of archeological in terest. "The results of this project have made it possible to date with unusual accuracy the many episodes in the development of the Indian civilization in the southwest as revealed by archeo logical records." Guthe said. Scientists counting the "tree rings", of the old timbers also were able to deduce whether a year was wet or dry, Guthe add ed, and helped confirm the theory that sun spots are most numerous at 11-year intervals. At the Russian border, Rus sian personnel go through the train and put up iron curtains at every window, said Prof. Joshua Cope on his return from a six-month's stay in Finland. He said passengers neither may look out nor get out while the train passes through a cer tain area, and tie general as sumption is that the Soviets are fortifying the section. Cope was so indignant about the iron-curtained windows that he took a bus and went around the Parkkala area. "That was an indignity to the human spirit I could not abide," he said. Cope was sent to Finland by the American Friends service committee to help with interna tional volunteer work camps or ganized by the Finnish relief or ganization.
