The San Bernardino and Hol lywood applications were put forward respectively by George Kipp and jack Dcmpsey. Church said the forecast was for showers tonight with clearing tomorrow. There probably will be some show ers around the edges. Church said, with the possibility that one or two of them may drift across the valley but the rain fall was expected to be light and would soak in. "The chart shows that it will be 'play ball' tomorrow night," Church said. By Hank Green Medford Rogues under Mana ger Tommy Nelson, will open their 1950 home Far West Base ball league season Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. at the fairgrounds park with the Marysville Braves at opponents. Tonight at 6 o'clock the entire Rogues squad will be honored at a banquet by local baseball fans under sponsorship of the Athletics Booster club of South ern Oregon. The affair will be held in the YMCA and will in clude a program as well as din ner and talks. Entertainment will include the Eve Prentice accordion band. Newbry To Attend Secretary of State Earl T. Newbry and Mayor Diamond Flynn will help officiate at open ing day ceremonies tomorrow evening and will welcome the Rogues to Oregon and Medfoord at tonight's banquet. More than juu people are expected for the dinner. A parade starting at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow will herald the ap proach of the local professional baseball season with the junior high band, a marine corps color guard, several floats entered by businessmen and other units tak ing part. The march will start near the courthouse and so through downtown Medford. Evening ceremonies starting at 7:30 will include musical se lections by the junior high band, raising of the flag in charge of the marine corps and the tradi tional pitching, catching, umpir ing ana Dauing oy dignitaries present. Local merchants and business men have donated cash prizes to taling more than $175 plus sev eral merchandise awards to go to Medford Rogues making "firsts" tomorrow night. The Rogues are comino to Medford wilh a far better rec ord in the Far West league this year than when the Nuggets opened the 1949 season at the fairgrounds. Last rear the Nug gets lost 13 games before a vic tory. Medford's Dro baseball reore- sentatives this season have shown power at the plate and some better than average pitch ing when the "chips were down." Two or three games have seen the opposition comb local pitchers for eight to 10 hits to garner only three to five runs. Don Gehrmann Wins Drake Relay Honors Des Moines. Ia May 1 (U R) Distance Runner Don Gehrmann of Wisconsin was heralded today as the outstanding performer in the Drake relays. Newsmen who covered the an nual classic Friday and Satur day voted Gehrmann the honor for the second consecutive year, but by a considerably slimmer margin than in 1949. High School Baseball Set Central Point and Camp White baseball fields will be scenes of Southern Oregon conference baseball games Tuesday when Medford' travels to CP. and Eagle Point high is host to Grants Pass at the Veterans cen ter field. "Play ball" at both places will be 3 p. m. Wednesday afternoon the Black Tornado will play Ash land in a conference game at Medford's field. Last Friday the Tornado nine lost a conference tilt to the Cavemen from Grants Pass, 9 to 8, on a homerun with the bases full in the final inning, and then swept a doublcheader from Myr tle Creek Saturday in a non-conference affair. Central Point lost a 7 to 4 de cision to Sutherlin last Friday and the same day the Eagles dropped a 9 to 5 nod to Illinois Valley high school. Grants Pass, Medford and Klamath Falls currently are top teams in the conference. The Tornado has won two and lost as many so far in 1950. Net Players Tidy Tennis Courts Prospective members of the city tennis team turned out with brooms, shovels and rakes yes terday and tidied up the senior high school tennis courts. Singles and doubles practice matches were played after the cleanup. Others interested in trying for team berths are still invited to turn out. The group urged that racqueteers get as much practice as possible by us ing the court in the eVenings during the week. An inter-city match scneouie is being drawn up. The scores were 4 to 3 and 7 to 6. LaVere Herrman pitched five hit ball for Medford in the seven stanza opener, fanning four and walking two. Stuart scored for the Rogues in the first inning on a walk, steal, error and Manager Tom my Nelson's infield out. Med ford took a 3 to 1 lead in the third on Stuart's walk, Nelson's single and Williams' two-run double to left field. Reno, trailing 3 to 2 in the sixth inning, with two out, got its winning runs as big Ellis Daugherty homered over the right field fence with Joe Bor ich aboard. In the nightcap the score see sawed until the ninth when Reno loaded the bases on a walk to Daugherty, questionable deci sion on Diercks' fielder's choice and intention pass to Akins. Pitcher Lloyd Jones, losl..g con trol, then walked Smith to force in winning run. Bolen scored in second for Rogues on a single and Stuart's deep fly to center. Yakima Gains Lead in WIL Seattle, May 1 U.R Yakima was back atop the Western In ternational - heap today after a wild and woolly week end of class "B" ball which saw two shutouts, two extra inning games, one league record broken and runs galore. The capstone was Yakima's 20-0 shutout of Spokane, which came within one run of the all time W. I, L. record. The record was set in the Yak-ima-Spckane debacle. The hap less Indians committed 10 er rors to put a new mark in the record book. Yakima won the first Sunday game 8 to 7 in IS innings. Each semi-pro team will play the other three times during the season. Central Point will play Cave Junction in its opener. In practice encounters here yesterday Central Point's Millers lost a doublheader. Eagle Point beat them, 7 to 3, in the starter and the Medco Loggers of Butte Falls came out on top, 7 to 5, in the finale. Butte Falls scored five runs in the first inning.
