p Announce Trothal Of Jocelyn Bauer To San Carlos Man Of interest to many In Med ford will be newa of the engage ment of Miss Jocelyn Bauer, (laughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bauer, formerly of Medford and now of San Carlos. Cal., to Don ald Thorn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew P. Thorn of San Carlos. The engagement was a n nounced at a tea given recently by the Bauers, with Miss Phyllis Thorn, sister of Mr. Thorn, assist ing Mrs. Bauer and her daughter in receiving. Miss Bauer attended San Jose State college after leaving Med ford about three years ago. Her fiance also attended the college and is now in business in San Carlos. She is a niece of Mrs. Warren Olson, Mrs. W. H. Flu hrer and Mrs. Irwin Miller, all of Medford. September 24 has been set as the date of the wedding. Medford Sojourners Meet at 'Y' Building Medford Sojourners gathered at the YMCA Thursday for the regular semi-monthly meeting. About 35 were present. Miss Charlotte Rogers, field director for the Red Cross, was a guest for the afternoon, and Mrs. Lawrence Prescott became a new member. Prize winners at bridge were Mrs. Clifford Howard. Mrs. L. L. Sanders, and Mrs. A. B. Fleming. Those winning in pinochle were Mrs. Agnes Wood, and Mrs. H. E. Nulten. Mrs. Lawrence Prescott held high honors in canasta and I another prize was given to Mrs. Jack Weddle. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. F. D. Earhart. Mrs. Vest Fleeman and Mrs. E. Eg gers. Members of the Get Together club will meet for a potluck dinner and business meeting Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Eagles' hall. Mill Bauer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bauer, has many friends and re latival in Medford. The wedding will be in September. War Brides Mrs. Harlan P. Bosworth Jr.. will be hostess to members of the Jackson County War Brides club when they meet Wednes day, May 3 at 8 p.m. Attention is called to post ponement of the meeting from Monday May 1 to the Wednes day date. Another water color. "Sail boats." by Eugene Bennett, also a Medford painter, was included in the exhibition. Of the 613 works entered, 93 were chosen for the show by a committee of selection consis ting of Donald Bear, director of the Santa Barbara Art Museum, Mitchell Jamieson, artist-teacher at the Cornish school in Seattle, and Mark Sponenburgh, sculptor and assistant professor of art at the University of Oregon. Mr. Voorhies. formerly of Medford now makes his home in Portland and Mr. Bennett, a student at the Art Institute of Chicago, spends his summer in Medford. Several Medford persons who attended the con ference will speak, and anyone interested Is invited. Sponsoring the gatherings are ers. Junior Service league, Medford League of Women Vot American Association of Uni versity Women and the city's P.T.A. units. Speaking will be Mrs. Henry Padgham, Misss Elizabeth McGalliard, Mrs. Mar jorie Hopkins, John .Richard, Mrs. Ethel Tennant, E. H. Hed rick. Miss Frances Clink. Mrs. E. Handier of Ashland and Mrs. Blanche Frisbie. Each will cover a separate phase of the conference. Gov. Douglas McKay called the Oregon meeting in prepara tion for the mid-century confer ence to be held in the White House later this year. Purpose of the Washington conference has been outlined in seven phases, and will attract many of the nation's leaders in youth services. The conference has been called to focus attention on the nation's concern for children and youth; to bring taRether present knowledge about the status of chlidren; point up the needs of parents in providing adequately for children; look at the physical, social, economic and moral environment in which children are growing up; size up the present services for children and youth; examine the ways people are now working together for children, and initiated steps for the achievement of the con ference recommendations in the coming decade. The White House conferences have been held each 10 years. Mothers' Week-End Planned At College; Announce Program Mothers of Oregon State Col lege students will gather next week-end at Corvallis for the annual "Mothers' Week-end;; there. The play "Hay Fever, will open the festivities when tt is given at 8:15 p.m. in the Mu seum building, Thursday. May 4. Registrations will be made from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, and art exihibits in Kidder hall and Memorial Union hall will open that afternoon. Saturday will open with reg istrations from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Open house will be held through out the campus during those hours. A stvle show will be pre sented Saturday morning and luncheon will be served at the different .sororities, fraternities i and dormitories. Auxiliary To Elect At Meeting Tuesday Election of delegates for dis trict and department meetings will be held at the regular meet ins of Crater Lake auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Tuesday, May 2. The meeting will be held in the Veterans hall, 42 North Front street at Memorial services will be held and plans for poppy day will be outlined. Members of auxiliary who at tended installation services at Ashland April 26 were Mrs. O. O De Berry, Mrs. Helen John ston. Mrs. Amy Randle and Mrs. Robert Walker. Alpha Phi Alpha Phi Southern Oregon Alumnae club will meet Wednes day, May 3 at 1 p. m. at the Rogue Valley Country club for luncheon. All members of the sorority are invited to attend. Sunday.
