Gil lin, 411 Beatty street, collided on Crater Lake avenue about one mile north of Medford Wed nesday night, reports filed with city police stated. Some damage was reported to the Chapman car, Historical Society Directors of the Southern Oregon Histori cal Society, Inc., will meet Sat urday at 11 a.m., in the county court room at the courthouse, ac cording to Miss Claire Hanley, president of the society. Miss Hanley stated that the directors are expected to pass upon a com mittee recommendation regard ing selection of a temporary cur ator for the museum to be open ed soon in the former county court house at Jacksonville. Doctors Here Dr. Max C. Carter and his wife. Dr. Barbara Carter, with their daughter, Ann, are visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George R. Carter, 821 East Jackson street. Dr. Max Carter is now practicing thoracic and cardio vascular surgery in New Haven, Conn., and before coming to Medford he attended the annual i meeting of the American Thor acic society in Denver where he was Invited to present a paper on experimental thoracic surgery. Exac actly ceof I ., APR. 30 Arraigned R o b e r t Eugene Cooper, 27, Applegate, was ar raigned on grand larceny charges in Justice court yesterday in a case involving theft of mechan ics tools valued at more than $35. He waived preliminary hearing and is being held in county jail in lieu of $1,500 bail. ... Collision Reported Consider able damage occurred to a sedan driven by Paul B. Lowery, 255 Stewart avenue, in a collision yesterday morning, according to a report filed with city police. Driver of the other car was Les ter Bray, Allen hotel. The acci dent happened at Riverside ave nue and McAndrews road. From Fishing Trip Dr. Jou ett P. Bray has returned after spending four days at Gold Beach on a fishing trip there. Dr. Bray was accompanied on the trip by Leland Rohner, Grants Pass. Dr. Bray reported that the weather was Ideal and that fishing had been good, though while they were there the river became high and riley. Their largest catch was a 28-pound salmon. ... Passengers Hurt Elvln Lee Kile, aged two, and Mrs. George Kile. 709Vi West Jackson street, were slightly hurt about 8:30 p. m. yesterday in a collision at Summit avenue and Second street, city police said. The au tos involved were operated by Philip Wayne Merrifield. Beatty street, and Gordon Lowell Sikes, Central Point. B-'Jj cars were considerably damaged. Ta Hawaii Word has been jeceived here of the transfer of J. R. Mitchell, son of Mrs. Mar tha Mitchell, Jacksonville, to tne Hawaiian islands. Mitchell has been stationed for the past sev eral years at Oak Harbor, Wash., navy airbase. Mrs. Mitchell and the family expect to leave by ship from San Francisco May 1. The Mitchells are former Jack sonville residents and Mrs. Mitchell is the former Merle Kendall. Troop-Posse Drill Members of the Jackson County Mounted Sheriffs' posse and Ladies' Mounted Troop auxiliary drill teams will meet at the posse grounds on Ross lane Sunday at 10 a.m. for drill practice. The teams are preparing for the first presentation of their precision drill at Grants Pass June 3, and for the Rogue River roundup here June 10 and 11. Anyone wishing to watch the practice is invited to do so. Obituary MRS. HANNA JOHNSON Mrs. Hanna Johnson. 85, of 845 Bennett street, died at her home this morning. Perl funeral home will have charge of serv ices. A more complete obituary will be published later. MRS. ZELDA BROWN Recitation of the Holy Rosary for Mrs. Zelda Mae Brown, 1018 West Fourth street, who died Wednesday, will be held at Perl funeral home at 6:30 p.m. today. Howard, archbishop of Portland in Oregon, last night formally opened the campaign sponsored by the Sacred Heart Catholic church to raise $150,000 for the construction of a new building for St. Mary's school. Several hundred campaign committeemen and their famil ies attended last night s meet ing, which precedes tonight's in tensive project by about 250 men of the parish. Cites Need For Schools Archbishop Howard comment ed on the need for Christian schools, and he pictured the heri tage of all Catholics, saying that it is necessary to make sacrifices now if the new school is to be come a reality for their children. Other speakers at the meeting were the Very Rev. John M. Ber ger, pastor of the church here; L. A. McCormick, parish chair man of the drive; Frank Apple gate, an old time parishioner, and E. H. Valley Folk Attend Footprinters' Meeting A delegation of Medford Foot printers and their wives attend ed a joint meeting of Klamath Falls, Dunsmulr, Redding and Medford chapters of Footprint ers at Cal-Ore, near Dorrls, Cal., last night. The group made the trip by chartered bus. The meeting honored the pres ident of the grand chapter of the organization, Clarence B. Jor gensen, Oakland, Cal. The Footprinters organization is made up principally of busi ness men Interested In cooperat ing with law enforcement agen cies. Approximately 200 attended the joint meeting. April 28. 1950 Public Land Requests Reach Record Volume March applications for the use of the public domain reached 4,000 a record for recent years, according to a burctu of land management report. That is more than 50 per cent higher than the monthly average over the last year, the report said. Increased activity during March was reported generally throughout the bureau's seven regions, with particular interest shown in oil and gns leases and small tract applications. Small tracts are parcels of land, five acres or less, which have been classified for use of home, busi ness or recreational sites. Fifty-six land withdrawal ap plications were made to the bu reau during the month from oth er federal and state agencies for land to be withdrawn from the public domain for use as irriga tion or power sites.
