Tornado Nine Defeats Eagles; Score 1 1 to 2 Medford high baseball team to day looked forward to its second Southern Oregon conference game of the week after easily defeating Eagle Point high's dia mond squad 11 to 2 on the Camp White field yesterday afternoon. Friday the Black Tornado nine will play Grants Pass on local school field at 2 p. m. and Sat urday the local youths go to Myrtle Creek for a non-league double-header. Conner Local HurUr Yesterday'! victory over the Eagles with Dennis Conner al lowing his opponents but two hits, was the second conference win for the Tornado against one defeat. Earlier the Medford boys defeated Eagle Point and last Saturday lost to Klamath. Jim Grimm paced the Medford hitting with two hits in as many official trips to the plate, while Connie Holzgang was credited with three safety blows in five t"ips. including a three-bagger, and Ned Landers rapped out one hit a double in three trips. The only hits made by the Eagles were George Forrestier's single in the third, which helped score the Eagle Point's first run, and a double to right bv Pat Sim mons in the sixth, which also aid ed in making a run for the Eagles. Medford Scores Five Medford's big seventh inning when it tallied five runs saw walks to Grimm, Don Coss and Ray Smith, singles by Gary Boshears and Holzgang, two er rors, three stolen bases and a passed ball. Errors by the Eagle Point nine and wildness by the pitchers con tributed much to Medford's vic tory. Conner on the mound for the Tornado had his wild mo ments also but his speed in par ticular helped him out of trouble. Rogues Get Four Players Medford Rogues will obtain four more "hired hands." includ ing a pitcher, an outfielder, a first baseman and a catcher, all of whom reportedly are either limited service players or veter ans. Business Manager Mel Car penter reported today. He indicated two of them might join the Rogues in their Far West Baseball league opener at Pittsburg, Cal., tonight while the other two would report either at Reno, Nev., the end of this week or when the Rogues open in Medford on May 2. Names of the quartet were not available this morning nor was it announced exactly who would report and when. Carpenter also announced that negotiations for the purchase of Milt Martin, former Medford Dodgers catcher and now with Santa Barbara of the class "C" California league, had fallen through and that the popular re ceiver would not come to Med ford for this season. Martin is needed by Santa Barbara to bolster its catching staff, Carpenter said. Clemo Tkos Bud Gilman Aberdeen, Wash., Apr. 26 (U.R) Joey Clemo. Portland, scored a technical knockout over Buddy Gilman of Seattle in the eighth round of their scheduled 10-round fight here last night. The 126-pound Gilman was un able to answer the bell for the ninth round. Clemo. 126 pounds, caught Gilman in a coiner during the torrid eighth round and pep pered mm witn hard letts and rights to the head. unman went down for an eight-count in the second round. In the semi-finals. Paul Ken nedy, 160, Longview. Wash., scored a fourth-round TKO over Johnny O'Day, 155, Portland, in a scheduled six-round bout. U Day hit the canvas for a count of nine in the third. Butte Falls Hatchery Building Bids Okayed The State game commission has accepted low bids for con struction work at six Oregon trout hatcheries. A 50 by 100 foot concrete holding pond will be constructed at the Butte Fallls hatchery by Henry Den-Herder lor $9,948. Other low bidders were Teller Construction company b Construction company at S13.000 and Meade-Hobson at $13,320. Highest bid was $23,799.83 by Groesbeck and Hickson. The work also includes an ad ditional water system for the holding pond. The new pond will be used for rearing large fish. The NBA assigned negotiating rights to the top 119 collegians in the annual draft yesterday with Bowling Green's Charlie Share the top pick. But the special NBA meeting, which cut the league to 12 teams broke up in a hurry as nervous sportsmen sougnt to Begin con tract talks with the college aces. Plant Uncertain Plans of the rival new league, formed by Denver, Waterloo and Sheboygan after they were ex pulsed from the NBA, were un certain. The group planned to com plete organization of a 10-team league within the next few days. It was certain that the new league would draft players at its initial session. Ore., Apr. 26 (U.R) Oregon State college basketball team will play Bradley, runner up in the NCAA and national in vitational championships this year, at Peoria, 111., next Decem ber 7, Roy S. (Spec) Keene, Beaver athletic director, an nounced today. Keene said Bradley was one of five intrrsectional rivals scheduled by the Beavers on its annual eastern road trip in De cember. Junior High Track Slate Trackmen at Medford junior high school today were prepar ing for a triangular meet with Grants Pass and Ashland sched uled for Grants Pass Saturday afternoon, April 29, a sched ule released by the school re vealed today. Other track meets for the lo. cal junior high team coached by Mcl Boldenow assisted by Chief McLean, will send the local boys to Ashland for a dual meet on May 11 and they will face Grants Pass in a dial meet at the high school field here on May 19. Last week Friday the local track and field squad swamped Ashland junior high in a dual meet on the local senior high field 88 to 34 for its first victory of the season. Allen Winner 'Fly' Champ London, Apr. 26 Tough Ter ry Allen was being congratulat ed throughout the British Isles today on winning the world s flyweight championship but it was highly doubtful that his title would be recognized every where. Allen, former London street peddler, was awarded the cham pionship last night by the British boxing board of control when he defeated Honore Pratesi of France in a 15-round bout at Harringay arena. MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE NINE CP Defeated In SOL 11-10 Central Point, Apr. 26 Cen tral Point high's baseball team dropped a heart-breaker to Ash land high yesterday afternoon at Ashland 11 to 10 when an error in the last seventh with two men out allowed the Grizzlies to score what was the winning tally. This week Friday at 2 p.m. the Pointers will play a J-D-J league baseball game with Suth erlin at Central Point. Yesterday's Southern Oregon conference tilt saw the Pointers use Don Johnson on the mound with Herb Colley catching. John Bigham slammed out a home run with the bases full and Johnson drove out a roundtrip- per with one man on. John Da. vis got two hits in three tries.
