Astoria Cage Coach
Gives Up Position
Astoria. Ore.. Anr. 22 ,U R)
The resignation of Basketball
Coach Alex Petersen from the
staff at Astoria high school came
as a "complete surprise," James

hoop star, said ill a letter to the
superintendent that he had de

day regarding the return match
but Lillard said he had Wallick
under consideration for a match
here next Thursday night.
Meanwhile. Lillard said he al
so has signed Belcastro. Harold
(Blood and Guts) Davidson. Ted
Bell and George Strickland for
next Thursday night's card
Wallick is currently one of
the biggest drawing cards in the
northwest and has subdued some
of the best campaigners with his
deadly pile driver. He also em
oloys a mean toe hold, a maneu
ver which he used about three
months ago on Grable in Port
land, putting the Los Angeles
trappier on crutches for six
weeks.
Wallick is a better than aver
age scientific wrestler but much
prefers to resort to mayhem to
-ut an opponent into position for
lus pile driver.

Portland, Ore., Apr. 22 (U.R)
The state game commission to

in Oregon Including:
Douglas county The weath

end but conditions have been
rapidly improving. Some of
large rivers are slightly mur

were out but water was rather
high and muddy. These condi
tions have been improving all
week. Trout and steelhead
fishing is closed in Umpqua
until May 1.
Coos and Curry counties
Streams clear, not too high.
Limit salmon catches taken on
Rogue river in past few days.
Should be good over week

500-Foot Home Run
New York, Apr. 22 (U.R)
Ralph Kiner hit one of the long
est home runs in National
League history today as the
Pittsburgh Pirates swept to their
fourth consecutive victory, a re
sounding 9 to 2 triumph over the
winless Cincinnati Reds.
Kiner's mighty drive off right
hander Johnny Hetki in the
fourth inning cleared the left
field scoreboard by about SO
feet and disappeared over a
clump of trees in Schenlcy park.
It was estimated that the ball
traveled at least 500 feet and
may have gone more than 550.
Veteran observers said it was
longer than the two drives which
Chuck Klein hit to the top of
the right field roof of Forbes
field on July 10, 1936.
Victory For Chasnes
Kiner said it was the longest
ball he had ever hit. Babe Ruth
