Perfect Partners Rogue River Club Holds Flower Show; Hundreds Attend Rogue River The spring flow er show held Saturday at the Live Oak Grange hall in Rogue Kiver was an outstanding event, and hundreds of visitors viewed the beautiful display during the aiternoon ana evening. Lively interest was shown by the new exhibitors who welcomed the constructive criticism of the more experienced gardeners and everyone expressed appreciation of the careful worK of the judges. The judges were Mrs. Olen Arn spiger and Mrs. Elmer Wilson of Medford and the national hor ticulture chairman of the Feder ated Garden Clubs of America Mrs. Harry O. Smith of Cave Junction. Before the, opening of the show the Judges and their guest, Mrs. Stanton Rowell of Grants Pass, were luncheon guests at the home of Mrs. Faul Hughes, presi dent of the Rogue River Garden club. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Sam Bellah. Mrs. Perce Le- Brun and Mrs. Walter Carroll. There was a conservation ex hibit in the flower show as well as several commercial ones. Shrubs, trees and flowering plants were displayed by the Pleasant View nursery of Grants Pass and the Park Landscape company of Rogue River, while single specimens of many van eties of daffodils comprised Frank Hall's exhibit. Among them were some unusually rare ones. Other commercial exhib its were shown by the Del Rogue Feed store and Carl Meyers hard ware. The Gail Grocery store display included a registered lamb as a feature of interest to the children, and the Reece Ca tering company contributed chess pies for the tea table. All junior exhibits were very good and a special mechanical display by Bill Dixon was classed separately. Sweepstakes awards went to Mrs. Marjory Dunham for prim roses and to Mrs. Ruby Hughes for a song representation, "The Music Goes Round and Round." Special awards went to Mrs. Betty Carroll for an arrange ment of cherry blossoms, and to four entries under song repre sentations. These were Mrs. Dorothy Savage for "Woodland Echoes," Mrs. Mae LeBrun for "China Girl," Mrs. Betty Car roll for 'Down in Arkansas" and Mrs. Betty Wolhford for "The Old Oaken Bucket." Frank Hall took first place under commercial awards with his display of daffodils, Myers hardware won a blue ribbon, Park landscape a first and Del Rogue a first prize. Shirley Dows won first prize for a junior arrangement and Dennis Chanter first prize for a potted plant. Bill Dixon won a special blue ribbon. The Rogue River Garden club extends thanks to everyone who participated in or aided the show, and especially to Mr. and Mrs. Lester Savage who fur nished a truck load of trees to decorate the Grange hall. CRASH KILLS FIVE Texarkana, Tex., Apr. 21 (U.R) Five persons were killed and five were injured when a fire chief's speeding car collided with two other automobiles 18 miles west of Texarkana on U. S. highway 82 last night. Two Fellowship Clubs To See Motion Picture Westminster Fellowship club members of the Jacksonville and Central Point Presbyterian churches have been invited to meet at the Medford Presbyteri an church Sunday at 6:15 p. m. to view a religious moving pic ture. Following the film they will participate in a singspiration in the church parlors. At last Sunday's meeting in Central Point, two of the mem bers. Misses Doreene Jones and Mary Rupp, and the Rev. and Mrs. Joseph K. Swank, were honored guests during fellow ship hour. The occasion was in the form of a surprise in observ ance of the honored guests' birthdays. Games were played and gifts presented. Second Session Tournament Set Saturday Night Medford Duplicate Bridge club will play the second session of the annual individual tourna ment Saturday at the Medford hotel, with play scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m. Mrs. Frank Baker was high for the first session, played last Saturday at the hotel. Mrs. Paul Hatton and Mrs. A. F. Stennett held first place for the club's regular weekly session Tuesday, their score being 72j points. Second went to Mrs. B. L. Sanderson and Jack Barr, their score being 63 points, and third place was taken by Mrs. Jean Hall and Mrs. Royall Lee with 59Va points. A score of 58 points took fourth place for Mrs. Herbert Seitz and Mrs. Baker, and in fifth place were Mrs. G. R. Owens and Roy Prultt, who scored 56 points. Duane Chi Ids Host For Dancing Party Duane L. Childs. Stage Road south, entertained a group of friends at his home Saturday evening. Dancing was followed by refreshments. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Vern Collins, Mr. and Mrs. John Ahem, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ed monds, Mr. and Mrs. James Rolls, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sparks, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Gaines, Mr. and Mrs. James Sullivan, John Freeland, Miss Nancy Freeland Miss Pat Smith. Kenneth Seebol Miss Barbara Moench, Grabe Smith, Johnny Hoven and Miss Marie Wiinmer. Entertainers were Douglas Da' vis, vocalist, and Miss Carol Da vis, who played the accordion. Formof Initiation Set By Christian Group For Sunday Evening A formal initiation will ee held for additional young people joining the Christian church Chi Rho group Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church. The Rev. Holly Roy Jarvis will present Chi Rho pins during the service, and the young people will take a pledge. All parents of the initiates and members of the church are in vited to attend, and visitors will be welcome, it is stated. A reception will follow In Fellowship hall immediately after the initiation service. DeMolay Delegates To Attend Convention A large delegation of DeMolay members from Medford left this morning for Corvallis to attend the annual state conclave of the group. Heading the group were Jim Ward, master councilor; Jim Grimm, senior councilor, and Jim Pond, junior councilor. Sev enteen other members are also at tending the sessions. Friday.
