AT THE OLDEST HALL IN THE COUNTY I good heating system, and T Medford, Oregon Historical Society To Seek Expert as Temporary Curator A Southern Oregon Historical society committee last evening voted to ask the Oregon Histor ical society to lend the tempo rary services of an experienced curator for activation of the Jacksonville museum. The committee, according to Chairman Robert Dodge, re alizes that the work of receiv ing, cataloguing, labeling and ar ranging display of the many items to be exhibited in the mu seum should be supervised by a person with experience and training in that field. Setting up a system for a certain amount of bookkeeping and other clerical work will also be involved, Dodge pointed out. All of these considerations, he stated, led the committee to de cide that the best solution would be to seek the temporary serv ices of an accredited curator. It is believed that such a man can be secured through the state so ciety without more expense than would be involved in trying to accomplish the task with un trained local aid. Dodge stated further that se lection of a permanent curator will be made from the list of Jackson county applicants as soon as possible after the museum be comes a going concern. It is also planned that the permanent cur ator work for a time with the state society man to gain training. Petitions have been circulated for the past several weeks and far more than the necessary 25 signers have been obtained. Ad ditional signatures will be sought, however, before the peti tions are filed with the state soil conservation committee next Tuesday. The committee must schedule hearings in that area within 60 days after the petition is filed. Tentative boundaries that were set last night would create a soil conservation di-strict cov ering more than 50.000 acres in the northwest portion of the county. The district would be bounded on the south and east by the Rogue river and the north boundary would extend west into the upper reaches of the Evans valley to a point almost directly north of Gold Hill. George Loftin. a Sams Valley rancher who has initiated the soil conservation movement in that area, said he had encoun tered practically "Yio opposition to the plan in any of the four communities. His unfailing devotion to duty, superior attention to details, and outstanding efficiency in the performance of assigned tasks relating to fiscal and budgetary matters, purchasing and con tracting and civilian personnel administration, were important factors in the successful ac complishment of the mission of the southern recruiting district.' Petitions Seek Merger Of 2 School Districts Petitions were filed today with the Jackson county school dis trict boundary board asking for an election to pass on the con solidation of the Missouri Flat school district with the Apple Bate district. County School Superintendent C. R. Bowman said approval of the merger is almost a foregone conclusion and that the election would be routine. Missouri Flats students have long been trans ported to the Applegate school on a tuition basis. A date for the election has not yet been set. The case vitally affects stock men in that area who would be forced to provide all their herds with herdsmen if the legality of the herd district there is upheld.
