April 13. 19S8 Donovan, Harper Rematch Picked Topnotch Affair The match which could easily steal the show when the South ern Oregon Boxing club presents its amateur ring program at the armory on April 19 is the Don Harper-Donovan Wolfe rematch for the southern Oregon light- heavyweight championship. Until they met about a month and a half igo Harper was un beaten and no opponent had been able to go the distance with him. Wolfe, who was expected to get his brains scrambled by the Gold Hill clouter, proceeded to leave no doubt as to whom was the master as he decisively out pointed Harper. Colvin Alio Loses Still there was some doubt as to Wolfe's ability until he whipped Ralph Colvin of Port land here March 22. On the same show, Harper was being badly outclassed by Bull Halsey. Both light-heavies have been taking their rematch seriously. Wolfe has purchased a light and heavy bag and is working out every day while Harper has joined the Gold Hill high school track team in an effort to get his legs in condition and comes to Medford each day to work out in the armory practice ring. Eight other matches will com plete the card. Ashland Golf Course Taken Ashland, Ore., Apr. 13 (U.R) City officials said today two Los Angeles golfers returned a signed lease for management of the city's idle golf course. Merle M. Recently A. B. Mekvold. Rogue River superintendent of schools, met with two other members of the district baseball committee and they decided to hold regional playoffs. The Jackson-Josephine region would include at least seven high schools, all in Jackson county Kogue River, Talent, Phoenix, Prospect, St. Mary's (Medford), Butte Falls and Jacksonville. Gold Hill does not have baseball this year. Whether Josephine county has a playoff Is questionable as Cave Junction (Kerby) now is an A school and the only other town that might have a B scltool is Wolf Creek in the northern end of the county. The boys coached by Alex Mc Donald play the Oregon State college Rooks baseball team Fri day at 3 p.m. and then on Satur day compete against Corvallis high about 10 a.m. Wooten already has a no-hit no-run game to his credit against Eagle Point while Maddox has done little more than hurl a bit during practice. The local squad will leave early tomorrow morning for the Willamette valley city and the two games. Rogues Lose Practice Tilt San Luis Obispo, Cal., Apr. 13 (U.R) Don Carman pitched Cali- torma r'oiytechnic to a o-l vic tory yesterday over the Medford Rogues of the Far West league as his teammates backed him up with errorless fielding. The California school took a first inning. 2-0 lead and built it up to 5-0 in the fourth inning. Medford got its sole tally in the seventh, but Cal Poly nullified it with another run in the eighth inning. The llnescore: Medford 000-000-100 1 6 3 Cal. The malor change in the 1950 Hayward relays switches the Class B and C divisions from Sat urday to Friday. The larger schools will now run on Satur day and this season will share the spotlight with the Oregon- Washington state dual tracK meet. The events for the three divis ions will be substantially the same as in the past few years. The Class A schools will have a 12-event program, the B divi sion 10 and the Class C teams will participate in six track and field events. The 200 schools eligible for the spring track classic will have until April 17 to file tneir entry blanks with Hendrickson. The prep field event men will open competition at 11 a.m. and the collegiate meet will get un der way about 3 p.m. Oregon State Trackmen At Seattle Saturday corvallis. Apr. 13 How Ore gon State's track and field team stacks up in 1950 nortnern divi sion dual meet competition should be learned when Grant Doc" Swan takes his cindermen to Seattle Saturday against Washington. Last year the Beavers upset the Huskies, 66-65, in a thriller at Corvallis. Oreeon State boasts some top Individual Derformers but lacks depth which was clearly brought out at Eugene last oaturaay when Oregon defeated the Orange 10-2 in the annual relays. Eagle Point how ever has defeated Ashland and lost to Medford while the Point ers have dropped game to Grants Pass. Coach Clarence Melbye of CP. will be seeing his charges play their second game of the week which is hard on any pitching corps let alone one that hasn't been tried much as yet, as is the case with the Pointers. Eagle Point is also playing its second game of the week and the pitching situation there is little better than at Central Point, says Coach "Shy" Cal laghan.
