The Black Tornado cindermen
spurted into the lead In the first
event and were never behind.
Medford headed IB to 2 after two
events but the count was nar
rowed to 10 to 8 on the third.
Medford then swept the shot put
to sain a 28 to 8 margin. The
count went 32 to 13 after the
quarter mile.
10 Points Separata
Grants Pans squeezed the dif
ference to 32'a to 21' with
eight and one-half points In the
high Jump, the siNth event, but
could not come that close again
to Medford.
In addition to the shot put,
Medford also swept all points in
the low hurdles and 220-yard
dash. Medford took nine firsts
altogether and 10 seconds.
Coach Bob Newland pointed
with pride yesterday to the per-
fnrmancps of Jim uiewmii
ui UHnnmnn in the half-mile.
They were second to DcKur of
route In 2:02, fast for early sea
son. The Medford youths show
ed promise of stiff competition
for DeFur In the district test.

Helps Relays
Annual Rogue relays, consid
ered everywhere in Oregon as
the big test among class A high
schools for top point men in the
Wayward relays, roceived a shot
in the arm last week when it
was learned Unit the Medford Kl
wsnis club will donate a trophy.
Ron Rice, local club secretary,
said Saturday that the club al
ready has a trophy on hand and
that it was being engraved at a
lora! lewclry store. The award
will go to the school winning
first place.
Four teams will be entered
this week Saturday, April 15,
when the events start at the
Medford high field. In addition
to the Black Tornado there will
be Grants Pass, Ashland and
Klamath Falls. Central Point

Rice said that Kiwanis club
directors recently voted to do
nate the trophy and to support
the relays in any way the organ
ization could do so.

Race Slated
Plans for a -ti-mile flat track
motorcycle race at the Vallev
View track north of Ashland oh
Sunday, April 30, were an
nounced Saturday by Rogue Riv
er Ramblers Motorcycle club,
which will sponsor the event.
Officers said the race has been
sanctioned by the American Mo-
tnrcycla association of Colum
bus, O.
The track near Ashland is con
sidered the hest in Oregon by
the broadsliders as its surface is
granite and usually is free of
dust, local officers in charge
said. Some other tracks In the
state do not have this, they
stated.
Chairman and referee of the
race will be Ernie Holbrook with
Harold Breazeale as chief start
or. Chuck Stacy In charge of
publicity, Bill Ogles clerk of
course. Ginger Holbrook in
charge of programs and Everett
Longaueker, Grants Pass, an
nouncer. Judges will be Jack Dalzell

Doherty and Chamberlain on

some timely hits produced runs
for the visitors. Chamberlain
pitched to one man in the
seventh and final inning.

rapped out two base hits and

terday's golf play at Rogue
Valley Country club.
The 1949 chamn toppled when
Jack Lewis nicked Ivan Harring

games. Harrington shot a nice
75 for the round but had to con
cede Lewis four strokes. In

five for OTI in the opener but
committed two misplays to three
for the visitors. The second game
saw the Raiders make but 13
safeties and two misplays while
SOC pitchers held OTI to three
hits and Oregon Tech committed
four errors.
